Obituary

Rodney Dean Parkes

January 12, 2012

Rodney D. “Rue” Parkes, 57, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in Lakeview Health Center in West Salem.

He was born October 2, 1954 in La Crosse to Robert D. and Corinne (Falke) Parkes, was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church. He married Mary Utecht in 1982 and later divorced. Being very social, he loved shopping at Goodwill visiting with everyone, especially Anita. Although he never had a lesson, he could sing, play guitar, piano and organ with gusto.

Many will remember him as quite a talker on the phone, especially Saturday a.m. on WIZM’s Buy, Sell or Trade Show where he usually had something to sell or just to talk. He had a sharp eye for oriental objects and floral arrangements, decorating his apartments like show places.

Most of his life was a struggle, he was tired and wanted to go home. He wanted to thank everyone associated with him over the years for helping him live the life he did.

He leaves behind a daughter, Amanda Jo of La Crosse; son, Anthony Joseph of La Crosse; 6 grandchildren; mom, Corinne of La Crosse; siblings, Gregory (Dianna) of La Crosse, Karl (Wanda) of La Crosse, Barbara J. of La Crosse, Greta (David) Dahl of Whitehall; and his “Rockstar” nephew and godson, Lovell of La Crosse; Uncle K. Falke of Green Valley, AZ; and many cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his dad, Robert; brother, Michael K.; grandparents; special Aunt, Margaret of Sterling, KS; and other relatives.

Services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1407 Main St., La Crosse. Rev. Paul J. Mundinger will officiate. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial will be at a later date. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family. The death of people whom we love

Brings sorrow and deep pain:

But if our loved ones know the Lord,

Our loss becomes their gain.
