Ronald Leo Bedard

Ronald Leo Bedard, age 91, of Onalaska, died March 1, 2025, after a short illness.

Ron was born December 29, 1933, in Moosup, Connecticut, to Lillian and Leo J.I. Bedard.

Ronald was a University of Rhode Island graduate and later earned a Ph. D. in organic chemistry from UC Berkeley. He spent much of his vocational life in the chemical industry contributing significantly to the field of flexible food packaging. In later years he served as a regulatory filing consultant and chemistry lecturer. Ronald will be remembered as an adventurous, inquisitive, well-travelled, cultured individual. Ron spoke three languages and played multiple musical instruments. His hobbies included: family genealogy, music, horticulture, cooking, and outdoor activities. Ron was an Audubon conservationist and enjoyed outdoor settings including national parks.

Ronald is preceded in death by his oldest son, Vincent; his first wife, Mary Lou Bedard; Frank Marsh, his brother-in-law; and his second wife, Marlene.
He is survived by his sister, Terese Marsh; five children, Marge Troka, David Bedard, Sandra Abberton, Jeff Bedard, and Thomas Bedard; and two stepchildren, Kathy Bell, and Karen DeCardona. Survivors also include nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and additional nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10-11am Saturday, April 26, 2025. A celebration of life will follow the visitation at 11am at the funeral home. Coulee Region Cremation Group, 133 Mason St., Onalaska, WI 54650. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting CouleeCremation.com.

    I got to know Ron through classes at the YMCA and with coffee and conversation afterwards.He was a delightful person & I was always greeted with a big smile from him.I enjoyed his quick wit and his knowledge of so many varied subjects.He will certainly be missed!

    I can’t say enough great things about our sweet Ron. A true light to the YMCA family. I enjoyed many conversations and getting to know him. We will all miss Ron very very much.
    Such an inspiration to so many of us. Rest in peace dear Ron.

    A sweet, lovely man. Jim and I enjoyed all his stories. What a memory he had of a life well lived. I will never forget playing Chronology with him…he knew all the dates and sometimes was there when it happened. Our deepest sympathy to you Marge and the entire family. Much love, Jim and Bonnie

    Ron was such a nice person. I enjoyed playing mahjongg with him at the Senior Center in Onalaska.
