Shirley Kathrine Holman, 91, of Onalaska died on October 24, 2024.

She was born in Milwaukee, WI, on June 2, 1933, to Harvey and Malitta Hammerschmidt.  She has a younger sister, Mary; her older brother, James preceded her in death.

In 1953, Shirley married John L Monte Holman of Milwaukee. They moved to La Crosse in 1957 when Monte accepted a position at the Trane Company.

Shirley loved life and was involved in many organizations including being a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for 50 years. She loved to travel and took every opportunity to go with Monte on business trips all over the world where she made many life-long friends. Shirley enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, boating and entertaining friends in her home. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were an exceptional blessing.

Shirley was elected to the 34th district seat on the La Crosse County Board in 1974 and served for 28 years in many leadership positions. She also served on the advisory board of Viterbo University and as chairman of ORC Industries board of directors. Shirley served on the Wisconsin Counties Association (WCA) board for 7 years and was the first woman president in 1995. For the last 20 years and up until her death she was a board member of WCA Services, Inc. Shirley also continued to serve (since 1986) on ORC Industries board of directors. “I have accumulated many wonderful memories while serving the residents and community of La Crosse. For that I am grateful.”

She is survived by three children, son John (Becky), son Tim (Kathy) and daughter Jorié (David) LePlavy; four grandchildren, Joe (Dannielle), Anna (Alex), Tess and Andrew (McKenzie); and five great grandchildren, Easton, Emerson, Hayden, Benjamin and Grayson.
