Shirley Mae Hoverud
Shirley Mae Hoverud, 87, of La Crosse, WI passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 23, 2018 in La Crosse at Hillview Healthcare Center. She was born on September 11, 1931to Raymond H. and Leona M. (Oestreich) Holmes. She married Victor P. Hoverud on August 12, 1950 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in La Crosse, WI.
Shirley formerly worked at Belscot, K-Mart and Gundersen Clinic. Shirley enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo and socializing. She looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and Church members and her Pastors. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, La Crosse, WI. She had attended Central High School. She also was Nakomis Grandmother of the year in 2005.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Vickie (Raymond) Michalko; her grandchildren, William (Michelle) Michalko of Rochester, MN, Molly (Mark) Breidel of Onalaska, and Joseph Michalko of La Crosse; great grandson, Xavier James Breidel; three sisters, Marlene (Don) Stover of CA, Judy (Calvin) Cade of Viroqua, and Donna Boardman of La Crosse; and also, her longtime friend Shirley Hefti. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Leona Holmes; her husband, Victor, who passed May 21, 1983; and her brother, Raymond (Mike) Holmes.
The family wishes to extend a thank you to Hillview Health Care Center for the special tender care they gave to Shirley the past 5 years. Special thank you’s go out to Sue B., Ponch, Marina and Christine, and all staff that took care of Shirley. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 11 am at Coulee Region Cremation Group, in the Prairie Room, with visitation beginning at 10 am until the time of service. Rev. Jacob Eichers will be officiating the service.
We are so sorry for the loss of your mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Shirley. We remember how kind and sweet she was to our family and she was always had a ready smile accross the fence and a minute to chat.
