Sister Muriel Stork
Sister Muriel Stork, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 97, died April 30, 2012, at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse.
Sister Muriel was born to John and Agnes (Bruch) Stork on Sept. 5, 1914, in Mt. Carmel, Iowa. She entered St. Rose Convent in 1931. Sister Muriel began her career with seven years of teaching in Wisconsin. After earning certification in nursing and administration, she served as registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital, La Crosse (11 years), St. Anthony Hospital, Carroll, Iowa, (six years), one year at Idaho Falls followed by six years at Lost Rivers Hospital, Arco, Idaho. From 1965 to 1969 Sister Muriel was Director of Nursing Service at Villa St. Joseph and then administrator at St. Joseph Nursing Home, La Crosse. She returned to Arco where she was administrator for five more years and did various duties for several additional years. Sister Muriel was appointed administrator of Villa St. Joseph from 1977 to 1983. After a sabbatical year she moved to Las Vegas where she was involved in parish ministry at St. Anne’s until her retirement in 1993. Sister Muriel spent several years at Mary of the Angels Convent, Spokane, Wash., before moving to St. Rose Convent and then Villa St. Joseph in 2006.
Sister Muriel is survived by her Franciscan Community; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Carl, Norbert, Erwin, Clara, Florentine, Sister Myrene, Albert, Lenore, and Annette.
Friends may call after 3:15 p.m., Thursday, May 3, at St. Rose Convent. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m in Mary of the Angels Chapel. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in the chapel at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 4. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse.
