Sister Rosella Namer
Sister Rosella (Naomi) Namer, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 98, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse.
Sister Rosella was born to John and Theresa (Loder) Namer on May 7, 1912, in Mallard, Iowa. She entered St. Rose Convent in 1932. Entering the teaching profession, she served for 20 years as an elementary teacher in parochial schools in Iowa and Wisconsin, including Middle Ridge and Holy Cross and St. Mary’s, both in La Crosse. Sister Rosella taught on the secondary level at Breda and was librarian at West Point (both in Iowa) for eight years before moving to La Crosse. From 1970-1983 she was librarian at Viterbo College, first in the main library and then in the music library. After her retirement, she continued to volunteer at the college until 1994 when she took up residence at St. Rose Convent. A year later Sister Rosella moved to Villa St. Joseph.
Sister Rosella is survived by her Franciscan Community and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Pearl; and her brother, Norman.
Friends may call after 3:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, at St. Rose Convent. A Remembering Service will be celebrated that evening at 6:30 p.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the chapel at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse.
