Obituary

Stephan Allan Rogge

May 15, 2015 | 5 comments

Today, the marshes and forests of Wisconsin are a little quieter, for one of their sons is absent.

Stephan Allan Rogge, Capt, USNR (Ret), of Mindoro Wisconsin, passed away at his home surrounded by the land he loved and worked.

A master of all he surveyed, his dedication to his country, family, and fellow man was evident in all he pursued. 33-year veteran of the United States Naval Reserve, his accomplishments are reflected both in the success and loyalty of his subordinates. A steward of both law and nature, his long and successful career as an attorney was only interrupted by his dedication as an outdoorsman and avid conservationist. Having been a long-time supporter of Pheasants Forever, and the Wisconsin Waterfowl Assoc, his efforts to ensure the preservation of the hills and valleys he loved so dearly will not be easily forgotten. His love of the outdoors extended far and wide, with his many treasured fishing trips to Canada in the company of good friends, to his years of hunting in the Northwoods with Richard and Jon. His endless angling pursuits were frequently shared with brother Paul, wherever the waters took them.

His 40-year love affair, with his first and only wife Sandra, was only interrupted by his duties to his nation’s defense. In his words, “We are two halves of the same heart.”

Stephan is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, beloved ever-faithful Lab Emmit, father Allan “Bud” (Shirley), mother Norma, brother Paul, brother Mark (Holly), and many uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces in who his memory will live on for years to come.

No services are to be held, at his request, but a Celebration of his life will be conducted on Friday, June 5th. The celebration will take place in Neshonoc Swarthout Park, off Highway 16, from 2-6pm.

“Fair winds and Following Seas!”

Stephen was a good man and a good human. I had the honor of working in the same law office with him for many years and he was always the epitome of quiet strength. My heart and thoughts go out to his wife, friends and family.

  5. Robert Faust, ISCM, USNR (Ret.)

I served with CAPT Rogge in what was then Reserve Intelligence Area 10 for about 17 years. He was a fine officer in every sense or meaning of the word. Uniforms and military bearing always “4.0”; courteous, friendly, knowledgeable, gentlemanly. If there had been such a thing as a “poster boy” for our program, he’d have been an excellent choice to fill that role/image. I can’t think of enough good things to say about him. God knows what’s best, but I feel that he left us way too soon. Condolences to his wife, family, friends, colleagues and shipmates.
