Susan May Mengel, 58, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2013 at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse. She was born on November 17, 1954 to Robert and Joyce Mengel in Abbotssford, WI.

She came to live with Charles and Bette Hendrick as a young girl and continued to live with the Hendrick family. She worked as a cook at the Village Country Kitchen for 40 years and was a very dedicated employee. She loved being with family, and helping Bette at craft shows. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, never missing services unless she was ill. Susan had a strong faith which helped her through her struggle with cancer and passing peacefully into her Heavenly Home.

Susan is survived by her mom, Bette Hendrick; brothers, Clifford (Michelle), Calvin (Joan), Marvin (Cindy) and other brothers and sisters; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was very proud of her great nephew and neice, Connor and Audrey Hendrick who also loved their “Aunt Susie” very much!

She is preceded in death by her foster dad, Charles Hendrick Sr; brother, Charlie Hendrick; and Robert and Joyce Mengel; and other brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank the Mayo Clinic Cancer department for the care and concern they always showed Sue.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Temple Baptist Church, 1326 N Salem Rd, La Crosse. Pastor Daniel Habegger will officiate. Visitations will be held Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and one hour prior to the service both at the church.
