Obituary
Therese “Terry” A. Cozy
Terry passed away February 17th, 2024, surrounded by family and friends at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. She was 69 years old. Born January 25th, 1955, in La Crosse, WI, she was the oldest of Barbara J. and Robert E. Lanzel’s five children.
After graduating from Aquinas High School in 1973, she went on to work at Barbara’s, her mother’s clothing store. She married in 1979, had two children, Erin and Christopher – the true lights of her life – and later divorced.
Terry was an exceptionally hard worker, employed by Centurytel and Choicepoint for many years while also maintaining her own cleaning business, through which she forged deep connections with numerous lifelong friends.
In 2001, she met her life partner, Dan Chesebro. They enjoyed traveling, dancing, watching the game, and enjoying their families together through the good times and hard days alike.
Her favorite pastimes included catching sunfish and perch on the Mississippi, where she loved watching the eagles on the pontoon. She shared her parents’ affinities for creating beautiful seasonal crafts, decorating her home and others’ for every holiday. She also loved cracking jokes and kept loved ones laughing with plenty of sharp-witted one-liners even in her last days and hours.
Terry will be sadly missed by her daughter, Erin Cozy, and grandchildren: Lauren, Taylor, Annabelle, and Jackson Cozy. Her partner of more than 22 years, Danny Chesebro, as well as her sisters, Jeanette (Jim) Bast and Paula (Jim) Adkins, brothers, Bob A. (Kim Antony) Lanzel and Bill (Barb) Lanzel, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and close friends mourn her passing.
She is preceded in death by her parents Barbara and Robert Lanzel and son, Christopher Cozy.
Special thanks to all of the staff at Gundersen Lutheran hospital and renal dialysis center in Onalaska for their comforting care.
Family and friends may join us on Sunday, March 17th, 2024 for a celebration of Terry’s life at the Gathering Place, 133 Mason St. Onalaska WI. Visitation will be from 3pm-4pm with a service at 4pm with a reception following.
“You are loved.”
Our deepest sympathy to Terry’s children and brothers and sisters. Also to the Lanzel and Cozy families. May Terry rest in peace.
A great lady, a wonderful Mom, a good friend. Warm, loving, a straight forward thinker, funny as can be, with a smile that lit up a room. I will miss her always.
Rest in peace aunt Terry. We love you and miss you dearly already.
Rest in Gods Peace? my friend.
Love, Donna
