March 9, 2016 | 7 comments

Thomas (Augie) A. Grams, 63 of Galesville, died peacefully on March 5, 2016 from brain cancer at Marinuka Manor.

Tom was born in La Crosse and lived there for most of his life. He spent the last 17 years at his country home in Galesville. He worked at Desmonds Formal Wear and the La Crosse Tribune for many years and most recently worked at La Cro Products.

Throughout his life, Tom enjoyed hunting pheasants, geese and deer, playing golf and tennis, spending time outdoors, woodworking, gardening, and playing with his grandsons. He loved to tell jokes and stories and was known for his grilled chicken.

Tom was a very selfless man who would drop everything to help someone else. Above all, Tom was a dedicated husband and father. He and Jill devoted their lives to caring for their son Patrick. Tom had a special bond with Patrick that everyone loved to watch.

Tom is survived by his wife Jill, daughter Jenny (Travis) Waller and grandsons Jack & Peter of Holmen; son Patrick of Galesville; daughter Stacy (Andy) Dunning and grandson Thomas of Milwaukee; and siblings John Grams and Mary Ellen Stavitz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Nancy Grams and many beloved pets.

Tom’s family would like to thank the staff at Mayo Health System, Onalaska Care Center, Marinuka Manor and Mayo Hospice for the care they provided Tom in the final months of his life.

An open house style Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Onalaska American Legion, 731 Sand Lake Rd, Onalaska.

Augie was a great guy. He had the quickest wit of anybody I knew. Where as John Reed has the driest. He made me laugh and smile which is the greatest gift any friend can give. Please accept my condolences and know our prayers are with you all.

Jill, Jenny, Patrick, and Stacy and extended family,
Augie was a guy you could always relay on , trust, and know that he put his whole heart into whatever he was going to do. Never a dull moment with Augie and always great fun whether pheasant hunting in Iowa, goose hunting in North Dakota, playing golf or out having a beer. He was a unique guy who will be greatly missed and was loved by many of his Aquinas classmates. Tom will be with us always, and to recall the best of times and the joy he gave to many will be a great legacy from a great friend. May God grant him eternal peace in heaven and may he rest in peace. God bless the Grams family today and everyday.
