Timothy (Timmy) Lee Mitchell Jr, 41, of Onalaska, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11th,  2024 at 3:05pm from complications related to ALS, in the comfort of his home with family by his side.

He was born Friday May 27th 1983 to Tim & Andrea Mitchell. He married Amanda Isensee on April 29th 2017 at Holmen Lutheran Church. Tim was a very spirited, kind and caring young man. His teenage years are those of great stories and memories that many talk about and cherish to this day. Lasting impact is a term to be used quite often when talking about Tim. He joined the Army because of his deep appreciation for this country and what he believed it stood for. This journey took him oversees to which he did see combat. After serving on active-duty he was injured and was honorably discharged on medical terms.

Tim then made his way back home where soon after he became a father to not one but two beautiful girls, Mya & McKenzie. They were the absolute most important in his life and drove him to get Associates degree at WWTC then on to a Bachelor degree at Viterbo which was all in preparation to continuing working in pest control with his dad and eventually take over the business.

Unfortunately, as we are well aware now, the Lord had other plans in mind. In 2011 is when the story of Tim & Amanda began, including with that Lilly & Rhea. There were many ups and downs over the years but to be honest that resulted in an unbreakable bond between us. Tim & I decided to tie the knot in 2017 in a small but absolutely meaningful and beautiful ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Shortly after that, Tim adopted Rhea because to put it frankly she was his daughter and that was her dad so making it legal just made sense.

Now brings us to December 2019 when he officially got the diagnosis of ALS. This was not a shock to us as we had already done research and knew this diagnosis was coming but didn’t make it any easier. The day of his diagnosis he looked at the doctor and said “Well I’ve still got shit to do, and kids to raise”. And with that we left and so began the beginning of preparations for what our future together would now look like. Tim having to tell his parents, brother and especially our four girls was agonizing as he never wanted to cause someone else pain or hurt. The diagnosis he was given was about 2-5 years left of life, and that guy fought like a champ from beginning to end!

There were many struggles over the last few years but Tim continued to try and smile and make jokes and made it a point to continue being himself. His quick wit, and smart comments always left you with a warm feeling inside or sometimes that of yup he’s right again! Through it all he stayed as positive as I ever saw someone especially faced with a terminal diagnosis. His strength to keep seeing every day as a blessing was remarkable to witness. Throughout this journey his love and care for others shined brighter than I had ever seen it before. The concern and commitment to myself, all four of our daughters, and his family including friends clearly showed what a truly great man he was. There is not another soul like him in this world and I am beyond grateful to have spent every day/night with him until the end.

A quote that Tim lived by each and every day of his life, “If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it.” I know he would urge all of you to do the same!

Tim is survived by: his wife, Amanda Mitchell (Isensee); daughters, Lilly Kast, Mya Mitchell, McKenzie Mitchell & Rhea Mitchell; Parents, Tim & Andrea Mitchell (Seward); Brother, Andrew Mitchell & his wife Kayla Mitchell (Weiner); nieces, Madison Mitchell, Payton Mitchell, Amelia Mitchell & Natalie Mitchell; and many other family and close friends.

He preceded in death by: his grandfather, William Seward; grandmother Loretta Davis (Phillips) & Stephen Rich Davis; grandfather, Raymond Mitchell; grandmother Eleanor Sather (Tatley); grand-step father, Clinton Sather; aunt, Rebecca (Susie) Wilson (Seward); uncle, Mike Wilson; cousin, Jessie Wilson; and several other cousins & friends.

Thank you to: Wisconsin ALS Association, Wounded Warrior Program, VA along with the team of home based care, Dr. Michael Leone and associates with the ALS clinic at Gundersen Health Systems. Home care nurses Jen H, Kim K, Kim V, and deepest thanks and appreciation to Paula K. Paula became family to us, and developed a deep bond and trust with Tim over several months. Her care and dedication to him require recognition in the highest regard. Thank you to all the family & friends that came to visit him over the years and especially the last couple weeks he was here. Tim knew how cared about and loved he was.

Flowers can be sent to his wife Amanda Mitchell.

A celebration of Timmy’s life will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Holmen, American Legion Post 284 from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

What a beautiful tribute! I never knew Timmy personally as an adult. But he did spend a night at my house with his cousins and Andrew and they were all so much fun to have around. Some years ago, there was some event on TV, I don’t remember what it was, and Timmy and I were messaging the whole time and it was such a lovely conversation with a very intelligent man. My condolences to Amanda and his girls, Andrea and Tim, and also to the rest of my extended family who loved him.
