August 14, 2025 | 11 comments

With a final exhale, Trisha Young embarked on a new adventure, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.

Trisha Lynn (Schmitz) Young, age 51, of Holmen, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025 at Emplify Health-Gundersen in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She was born on January 7, 1974 to Robert and Machele (Mathias) Schmitz. Trisha graduated from Potosi High School and furthered her education at Southwest Technical College with a degree in Nursing. She spent all of her career as an incredibly talented registered nurse working in multiple departments at Emplify Health-Gundersen including the Emergency Department, IV-Therapy, Interventional Radiology, Outpatient Surgery, and finished her career in Care Coordination. Nobody would argue about the many lives she touched as a compassionate nurse.

On October 4, 1997 she united in marriage to Jason Young at St. Thomas Church in Potosi, Wisconsin. Trisha cherished becoming a mother to her son Blake Robert and her daughter Alexis Marie. If you asked her, they were her two biggest accomplishments. Jason and Trisha both enjoyed their trips visiting their son in his Air Force travels, family vacations full of hiking, and she was always up for any type of adventure. Well, besides, white water rafting. Her favorite place to visit was Yellowstone National Park where she went three times; once as a child with her parents, once with her own children, and later with her husband.

Trisha and Jason enjoyed many days on the Mississippi River throughout their marriage. They recently enjoyed spending days on the river on their new pontoon with their fur babies and special friends, Dennis and Mary Olson.

Trisha is survived by her loving husband, Jason; children, Blake (Holmen, WI) and Alexis (Milwaukee, WI); parents Robert and Machele Schmitz (Potosi, WI); in-laws Robert and Vivian Young (Madison, VA); siblings Chad “Buzz” (Mary Alice) Schmitz (Potosi, WI), Jill (Mike) Dankert (New Berlin, WI); many nieces, nephews, and friends. We also cannot forget her beloved fur babies Piper, Porter, and many chickens.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Gilbert and Martina Schmitz and Marcia and Virgil Mathias. She will also be reunited with her fur baby, Jack.

A visitation and service will be held at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St in in Onalaska, WI, on Saturday, August 23, 2025. Family and friends may call from 9:00am until the time of services at 12:00pm. Services are being handled by Coulee Region Cremation Group.

It is with a very heavy, sad, and broken heart that I write this about my dear friend and sweet soul Trish-y , who always had and always will hold a special place in my heart. There was a season in life where we were inseparable. I first met Trisha in the ER where I had the honor of precepting her. I knew from the first moment I met her, we had a connection that would go way beyond just coworkers. We shared so many of life’s greatest blessings together. We were pregnant together and had our first born baby boys just 3 weeks apart so we learned how to mom together… That season continued on and she became my person through all life’s ups and downs… she was a gift from God to me and was always there for me. She was my daughter’s Godmother. As the seasons of life continued to change, our time together became less, but we always remained friends and when our paths would physically cross, we so easily picked up right where we left off, like no time ever passed. She really was the best of the best.
Jason, Blake and Lexi please know that my heart breaks with yours. I pray for peace and comfort to fill your heart, mind and soul as you navigate life without your beautiful wife and mother. Know that she was loved beyond measure by me and so many others
