Walter W. Schumacher
Walter W. Schumacher, 90, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Walt was born on April 30, 1923 in the town of Henrietta, Richland County to George and Ella Schumacher. As a young man he worked on farms, cutting lumber, hauling gravel and limestone. He worked at Dairyland Power co-op for over 40 years. He had a small appliance repair shop in his home and also put up ham radio and television towers. He built his first C.B. Radio and truly enjoyed his ham radio. He enjoyed fishing, especially in the Devil’s Lake Area and hunting. Later in life he found golf and fell in love with the game. He always said he was under the weather when he was golfing. He had 4 hole in ones.
He was a member of Frontier Lodge No 45 Scottish Rite Eau Claire, Lodge 214 Onalaska, member of the Zor Oriental Band and the Zor Temple of Madison. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran church.
He married Norma Wiesphenning on July 12, 1952. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Karen (Michael) Maney of Eagan, MN, Janet Bahr of La Crosse; son, Steven Schumacher of La Crosse; 3 granddaughters, Stephanie Maney of Eagan, Kristine (Austin Smith) Bahr of Chippewa Falls, WI, and Karen (fiance Michael Slack) Bahr of La Crosse; brother, George (MaryJo) Schumacher of La Crosse; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Warren, Maynard, Ronald; sister Mamie Haskins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Sill St. La Crosse, WI 54603. The Rev. Erik Feig will officiate. A visitation will held from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the church Saturday. Interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
My heart goes out to you Norma and your family. Wally was such a wonderful & caring person. Carla and I will miss him very much the memories are such a wonderful thing. Love Carla & Cory & Deb.
