Obituary

Ron Carpenter

October 19, 2026 | 6 comments

Ron Carpenter passed away on October 15, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Ron was born to Carol and Marie Carpenter on December 30, 1937, in a small house at the end of Main Street in Alta, Iowa. He spent much of his childhood in Alta and carried many happy memories of those years throughout his life.

After serving in the U.S. Army in postwar Korea, he met Karon Bohning, the love of his life, when they both sang in a church choir in Alta. They married in Belmond, Iowa, on April 8, 1961, and shared 65 years of marriage.

In 1966, Ron and his growing family moved to Wisconsin, which he called home for the rest of his life. He was a dedicated Sherwin-Williams employee for more than 35 years. After retirement, Ron and Karon enjoyed 18 winters in Arizona.

He will be remembered as a faithful, kind, caring, and gentle person whose love for his family was his north star. Through his soft-spoken nature, he inspired his family always to be kind and considerate of others and instilled an appreciation of nature.
Ron had many passions. He sang in church and gospel choirs, barbershop quartets, and choruses in both Wisconsin and Arizona. Family members have fond memories of road-trip sing-alongs—and snacks. He loved outdoor activities and spent countless hours fishing, hunting, camping, and foraging for nature’s bounty with family and friends. He was known for his skill at cards and games, his photo slideshows, and his love of candy.

Ron is survived by his wife, Karon (Bohning) Carpenter; his children, Renae (Rob) Teale, Charles (Stephanie) Carpenter, Matthew (Kedibonye) Carpenter, and Tammy Carpenter; his grandchildren, Danielle Teale (Ricky Lentz), Adam Teale (Sara Salacinski), Ben (Morgan) Teale, Cailan Carpenter, August Carpenter, and Cedric Carpenter; his great-grandchildren, Aiden, Dean, Finley, and Fiona; his sister, Sally Radke; his brother-in-law, Loren Snyder; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carol and Marie (Case) Carpenter; his sisters-in-law, Barb (Bohning) Snyder and Gwen (Bohning) Peterson; his brothers-in-law, Robert Radke and Jim Peterson; and his niece, Lisa (Radke) Fokken.

    Dear Carpenters,
Words fail to even begin to express the love & admiration I feel for Mr. Basso Profundo, my quartet buddy Ron. I just ran across some business cards and a picture of us doing Singing Valentines across La Crosse county. We even became part of a young man “popping the question” to his Honey.
Ron managed to keep count of all of our performances numbering over four hundred shows, both big & small and traveling as far as Columbus, IN we had a blast.
For all the pleasure we experienced in a quartet, Brother Ron was the steady hand with the patience of Job while the rest of us were doing oddball brainstorm.
Ron was steadfast, loyal and a prince of a guy that a host of folks will miss him & all the good he brought to every situation.
