David Herman Rahn

December 1, 2018 | 17 comments

David Herman Rahn born on March 11,1943 died on November 30,2018 at 75 years old.
David passed away peacefully at home next to his beloved wife of 26 years Leona
(Moen)(Tabbert) Rahn.  David was born to Kenneth Edward Rahn and Alice (Olson) Rahn in LaCrosse Wisconsin and resided in Onalaska on Brice Prairie.

He carried on the family business Rahn Well Drilling and Pump Service for over 50 years that was started by Herman Rahn in the 1890’s. He helped raise his 2 children with his then wife Lois (Storandt) Rahn in Onalaska Wisconsin.  Ironically, they lived on Well Street. His hobbies in life included bowling, trapshooting, puzzles, antiques, restoring and showing classic cars, watching the Packers, the Brewers, golf and Nascar. (He was famous for his crazy legs and wacky bowling approach.) He was also a Rotary
club Member. He really liked music especially Elvis Presley. In his last year he enjoyed creating “steam punk” style lamps of all shapes and sizes even winning contests for his creative work and making several for his grandchildren, family and friends. He looked forward to bingo nights and playing cribbage with his life long friend Larry Pischke up to his last days.

David is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Alice (Olson) Rahn.

David is survived by his sister Betsy Elizabeth Ray of Sun Prairie, His wife Leona Rahn, his
daughter Pamela (Rahn) Weltzien of Arcadia and grandchildren Kaylynn and Benjamin; His son Michael David Rahn and Gayla (Banse) Rahn and grandchildren Adam, Joshua and Emily; His stepson Lee Tabbert (Erin), granddaughter Kaylee Tabbert, stepdaughter Lori Stone and grandchildren Caleb, Randa Stone, Sister-in-law Char (Arnie) Keene and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

David will be remembered for his smile and witty personality. In the end after a long battle with health issues he found solace in the song Peace in the Valley. He would want all his family and friends to find peace as well.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday, December 10, 2018 in the Prairie Room at Coulee Region Cremation Group, 133 Mason St. Onalaska, with visitation from 2:00 pm until the time of the service.  Pastor Scott Skogen will officiate.

(I was one of Pam & Mike’s babysitters, beginning when Pam was a baby. My sister Janet also babysat them. We loved them like family. Pam, I’m not sure how old you were in 1972 when I got married, but the ‘secret’ wedding gift your family was giving to Mark & me, you had described to Janet as “a peanut with a monkey on top”. Lois had made it in ceramics It was a cute covered dish in the shape of a peanut & it had a little monkey sitting on top. I hope this little story brought a smile to your face.)
