Alice H. (Slindee) Lehrke, age 77, of LaCrosse, passed away on February 12, 2023. She was born on October 29, 1945 to Harris and Vera (Dingeldein) Slindee. She married the love of her life, Frederick “Fritz” Lehrke on June 10, 1967 in La Crosse. They were married 21 years. Alice loved the Lord and her desire was for all her family to hear the good news of Salvation. She found fulfillment in her early years playing piano at church and later in life she taught Sunday School. Alice loved to read, especially books about the End Times. She was an intelligent woman who seemed to know the answers to everything whether it was history, definitions of words or family genealogy and stories. She could have been a Jeopardy champion. She had a passion for crafts like needlepoint and painting. She had a special bond with her sister Iris. The last several years they grew even closer and shared stories, pains and trials of life and lots of laughter. She enjoyed fishing and spending time at her daughter’s home and found her greatest joy in her grandchildren who she loved with all her heart. Before retirement, Alice held various positions with the State of Wisconsin and was also an Accredited Records Technician and Medical Transcriptionist. She is survived by her daughter Janet (Todd) Weihrouch and grandchildren Matthew, Ella and Ethan of Melrose; sister Iris Litsheim of La Crosse; nieces Sally (Greg) Inda of Onalaska, and Susie Slindee of La Crosse, nephews Jack and Eric Litsheim of La Crosse; stepchildren Judith George-Vaughn of Las Vegas, John Lehrke of New Amsterdam, David Lehrke of La Crosse and Patricia Lehrke-Rumppe of Blair. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Fritz; parents Harris and Vera Slindee; brothers Harlin and Kenneth Slindee; brother-in-law Jack Litsheim, a niece Debbie Slindee, and stepsons James, Wayne, Richard, Robert and Joe Lehrke.
The family would like to thank Hope Stay Assisted Living for their loving and wonderful care of Alice the past couple of months. Thank you to Rina Oliveira for your friendship to Alice; you were not only her friend, but also her advocate. Thank you to Pauline Prelozni for the many years she helped Alice and the friendship they shared. Many thanks to hospice nurse Mary Peterson, who went way beyond what was expected; your compassion and care brought our family much comfort.
Funeral services will be held at The Gathering Place (Coulee Cremation Group), 133 Mason Street, Onalaska on Thursday, February 16th . Visitation is at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. Pastor Rick Cooney will be officiating. Final resting place will be at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum in La Crosse.

Alice was a very special lady. She was sweet, kind and very much believed in The Lord. She inspired me, made me laugh, and will always be remembered. I loved her like the sister I never had. Alice was one of the first people that I met when I moved to LaCrosse from Texas. We worked together at LaCrosse Public Library for alot of years. In fact it was through her that I met her brother Harlin and maried him. We shared his loss. Now they are together again with The Lord. Alice I love you and miss you. Joan
