Arlene Jeanette (Slaback) Tabbert was called to her heavenly home, prepared for her by her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, November 3, 2021.

Arlene, age 87, of Onalaska, WI passed away unexpectedly at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, WI.  Arlene (Slaback)Tabbert was born March 2, 1934, in La Crosse, WI to Theron and Borgny (Hilde) Slaback. She married Wilbur Tabbert April 24, 1954 and together they celebrated 62 years of marriage. Arlene graduated from Logan High School in 1951 and continued her education in earning her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital for many years.  Arlene’s greatest joy in life was serving her Lord and being a homemaker for her children and husband. Arlene was also a skilled and accomplished knitter and crocheter. Arlene loved going to the family cottage in northern WI where she was able to spend 27 years of retirement with her husband.  She was at the family cottage just 10 days ago for a short visit with several of her children and was extremely happy to be “at the lake.”  Arlene was a devoted Christian and long time member of Christ Is Lord Free Lutheran Church where she had many friends and was dearly loved.

Arlene’s greatest gifts to us was her kindness and generosity!  Arlene was very social and always knew “what to say at the right time” to everyone and anyone!  Her infectious laughter, smile, and beauty both inside and out will be greatly missed by all.

Arlene is survived by her children David (Bonnie) Tabbert of Onalaska, WI, Norma (Larry) Smith of Deforest, WI, Don (Lori) Tabbert of Onalaska, WI, Marilyn (Jerry) Daniels of Onalaska, WI, and Ellen Selke of La Crescent, MN. Her grandchildren Nikki (Jen) Tabbert, Kelly Tabbert, Justin (Lauren) Daniels, Marissa (fiancé Jordan) Daniels, Katie (Justin) Johnson, Heidi (Kyle) Reimann, Ashlee Hrdlicka, Kinlee Selke, Bradlee Selke, Alec Smith, Adam (Tracy) Smith, and Courtney (Josh) Smith.  She is also survived by six great grandchildren (Cooper, Raelyn, Poppy, Harvey, Hayden, Brynn). She is further survived by her sisters Hilda (Ed) Remmers of Durham, NC and Evelyn Pertzsch of La Crosse, WI, brother Terry (Karen) Slaback of La Crosse, WI, sisters-in-law Sharon Slaback of Phoenix, AZ, and Eileen Slaback of Onalaska, WI, brother-in-law Wesley (Maureen) Tabbert of Holmen, WI and many nephews and nieces. She was also survived her beloved dog, Olive.  She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Tabbert, her parents Theron and Borgny Slaback, brothers Gary Slaback and Roland Slaback, sister, Norma Jean Slaback, brothers-in-law Dave Pertzsch and Bob Tabbert, sister-in-law Donna Tabbert, nephews Dean Slaback, John Slaback and Steve Tabbert, and niece Roberta Tabbert.

Funeral service is Thursday, November 11, 2021 located at Christ Is Lord Free Lutheran Church, 1269 County Road PH, Onalaska, WI  54650. Visitation is 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Service is 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.  A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family following service.  Please wear a face mask to attend service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Christ Is Lord Free Lutheran Church.

Arlene desired that those who know her be comforted by these words:  “He has taken my hand – all pain and cares will disappear and he will gently whisper “welcome home” I’m glad your here.”

Condolences

I last saw Arlene at the Celebration of Life event for my Dad Wayne Tabbert.
I lived in the Northland for several years, and visited Butch and Arlene a few times., fond memories. Arlene and I shared a mutual love for our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and our conversations were always edifying….
Condolences to her family… Jn 3:16

Sorry to hear of Arlenes passing. She was always so welcoming made you feel like your were family. I was able to talk to her often at church and Lyndas choir concerts. I loved her blueberry crisp.
