Arthur A. Mikkelson

August 6, 2024 | 1 comment

Arthur A. Mikkelson passed away on Thursday, July 11th in LaCrosse, Wi. at the age of 81. Art was born on February 19, 1943, in Winona, Minn. to Gordon and Lillian Mikkelson.

He attended school at Holy Trinity Grade School in LaCrosse, and graduated from Central High School in 1961. Following high school, he joined the Airforce and was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War.   After being honorably discharged he returned to college and completed a degree from the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse.

Arthur is survived by his daughter, Heather Spaight (Tom), and four grandchildren.   Further survived by his brothers, James Mikkelson (Vianne), Robert Mikkelson (Marylou), and sister Ellen Kafka (Patrick). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Wisconsin, California, Idaho, and Texas. Arthur was predeceased by his parents, and brother, John Mikkelson (Candy Thornton).

He had various employments in his early years while still in LaCrosse. A move to Milwaukee to run a bowling alley proved to be interesting, but most of his adult life was spent in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Always with a smile on his face, he enjoyed the various adventures that the city supplied.

Upon his return to LaCrosse a year and a half ago, he was graciously welcomed by friends, Joe Bloedorn and Mike Birnbaum, with Joe providing shelter and Mike informing Art of Veterans benefits that were available to him. Our family cannot thank them enough for all their help.

The Coulee Region Cremation Center of Onalaska is taking care of arrangements.  There will be a committal and burial service on Friday, 8/23 at 2 pm in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery-Preston, 715 Hwy 52/Preston, MN.

Please offer up a toast to the guy who never seemed to have had a care in the world.
