Obituary
Avis Solberg
Avis Solberg, 89, of Ettrick, died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Avis was born Sept. 19, 1936, to Mike and Agnes Dvergsten and grew up in Spring
Grove and Winona, MN. She married Glen Solberg in 1955 and they had six children.
During her working years, Avis and Glen operated the Skyline Supper Club in Spring
Grove, and she later worked as a home health aide. She was a member of Living Hope Lutheran Church in Ettrick.
Her husband Glen died in 2018. She is survived by her children Pam Solberg (Steve
McDougal) of Ettrick, Pete Solberg of La Crosse, Patti Carraux of Winona, Penny Chick (Dave) of Onalaska, Paige Barnes (Eric) of La Crescent, and Phillip Solberg (Sheryl) of La Crosse. She was grandma to 10 grandchildren: Erika (Weston) Erdmann, Chris (Afton) Barnes, Ashley Barnes, Jenny (Paul) Westlie, Lindsey Lakey, Amanda McDougal, Emily (Don) Ganz; and Sterling, Teddy, and Ellie Solberg. Avis also had 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Avis was a loving mother, grandma, and pet mom. She took in many stray cats over the years, enjoyed walking her dogs, regularly disregarded advice to not feed the wildlife in the yard, and told dinner guests that cat hair was a condiment. She was a prodigious reader who went to three libraries a week, and she rarely missed a book sale. She accumulated a large personal library and always asked visitors to take books home with them. “Books are your friends.” She especially loved reading to her grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to thrift stores to hunt for treasures that she knew her children would love, and she was an avid baker who believed that sweets were an essential food group.
We will miss her sense of humor, all the desserts, and the large quantities of socks that she reliably supplied to everyone, every Christmas. Most of all we will miss her sweet personality, her kindness, and her unconditional love. Rest in peace Mom. We hope there are libraries in heaven.
The funeral service for Avis will be on Monday, August 17 at Living Hope Lutheran
Church in Ettrick, with visitation at 10:00 am and a service at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Yucatan Cemetery in Houston County at a later date.

Pete and Families:
My condolences to you on the loss of your sweet mom and gramma.
She sounds like she was a gem and you were blessed to have her for so many years. Cherish the beautiful memories.
