Barbara Jean (Hanson) Wood

Barbara Jean (Hanson) Wood, 91, passed away February 19, 2024 at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse.

She was born to Norman B. and Elvira (Lee) Hanson on January 24, 1933 at St. Ann’s Hospital in La Crosse.

She graduated from Waupun, Wisconsin High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Wilhelm H. Wood at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun on June 21, 1952. They would have celebrated 72 years of marriage in June.

She enjoyed corresponding on her computer, cooking, sewing, snowmobiling, and watching hockey and football on tv.  Barb enjoyed going to parades when Bill would drive his Mini Shriner’s car.    She was very happy to witness the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl.

Barb and Bill enjoyed 50+ years at their home on Long Lake in Three Rivers, Wisconsin.  She spent her whole career working as a Legal Secretary.  She retired 3 years ago at the age of 88.

She was a member of the Three Lakes and Eagle River Snowmobile Clubs.  She held high honor in The Order of the Eastern Star.

Barbara is survived husband, Wilhelm “Bill” Wood of Holmen, two sons Gregory (Sue) Wood of New London, Gary (Donna) Wood of Eagle River, two grandchildren Dustin Wood (Andrea) of Onalaska, Briana (Mark) Joski of New Franken and four great-grandchildren Theya and Brekkin Wood and Jace and Charlee Joski, and also two nieces, Deb Kraemer Mischler and Pam Zetley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Donis and Larry Kraemer, and beloved white lab, Sami.

Services will be held at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska, WI on Wednesday,  February 28th, 2024  at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to time of service.  Burial will take place at Long Coulee Cemetery in Holmen. Pastor Jason Stanton will officiate.
