Obituary

Beverly Margret “Bev” Miller

November 20, 2024 | 1 comment

Beverly Margret (Bev) Miller of La Crosse, devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024. She was 87.

All who knew Bev will miss her gentle nature, her quick wit, and her deep commitment to her faith and to serving and caring for others.  She spent her career guiding children in Wisconsin and Illinois as a teacher, school social worker and principal. Upon retiring from education, Bev served the sisters of St. Rose Convent for many years as a secretary in the liturgy department. After full retirement she continued her service through volunteer work and ongoing attention to her family and friends.

Bev enjoyed the quiet pursuits of reading, doing puzzles, sewing, crafting, and gardening, but she also found joy in spending time around a card table playing euchre and pinochle where she never stopped teaching and rarely lost. She loved extended family gatherings where she specialized in entertaining babies and playfully teasing her younger nieces and nephews.  Bev was a baker and shared gifts of her kolaches and caramels throughout the year. She was adventurous, building memories while travelling with family and friends and spending time relaxing at the lake.  Most of all, Bev was kind and selfless with her time, never ceasing to serve those who needed special care, a friend in a time of need, or simply a willing partner for shopping and lunch.

Bev was proceeded in death by her parents, Raymond and Marie Miller, siblings Gerald Miller and Patricia (Trish) Stoltenberg, brother-in-law Gerald Dahlke, sister-in-law, Sharon Miller, and nephew Michael Miller.

Bev is survived by sisters Lucile Dahlke and Rosemarie Muphy (Jaime Ortiz) and nieces and nephews Sheila (Mike) Wolf, Debra (Rod) Knutson, Karla (Andy) Venell, Anthony (Vicky) Miller, Richard (Kris) Miller, Steve Miller, Daniel (Eileen) Miller, Aaron Murphy, Kristin Rutkowski, and Kyle (Danielle) Murphy. She had sixteen great nieces and nephews and seven great great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Mayo Hospice team and Benedictine Manor staff for all their special care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse with a visitation one hour prior to mass.  Interment will be at the Catholic Cemetery.   Father Rick Roberts will officiate.  The Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials or donations can be made to Holy Trinity Church, Viterbo, St. Rose Convent, Catholic Charities, Mayo Cancer Research or Mayo Hospice.

Bev was a classmate and friend. I will miss her in so many ways, —the one on one conversations over lunch, her invitations to her classmates to her home for special dinners, especially around the holidays, the delicious food she served so graciously, along with her hospitality. She was a prayerful and kind woman.
