October 14, 2023 | 6 comments

Cletus Ardell Casey, 95, of Ettrick went home to his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 12, 2023 in his home. Cletus was born September 19, 1928 to Clayton and Anna Dean (Nelsestuen) Casey in French Creek on the home farm. Cletus was confirmed and was a life-long member of Living Hope Lutheran Church in Ettrick.

On February 5, 1949, Cletus married Lois Harris at the Centerville Methodist Church in Centerville, WI. They were blessed with over 74 years of marriage.

Cletus’ faith in his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ grew stronger and sweeter as he aged. Devotion to family and a strong work ethic was instilled in him from an early age. Cletus hauled can milk for Marigold, sold insurance for Rural Mutual Insurance, and owned and operated Holmen-La Crosse Truckline for 25 years until his retirement.

Some of Cletus’ greatest joys were vacations with close friends and family, a good card game, buying and selling vehicles, retelling stories of days gone by, and listening to music, especially Lawrence Welk and Willie’s Roadhouse.

Cletus was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughters Jennifer Byom and Amy Casey, brothers and sisters-in-law Les and Winnie Grover, Arild and Betty Engelien, Norma Jean Wagner, Wendell Hilton, and Carroll Sacia.

Cletus is survived by his wife, Lois, his five children, Steve (Jane) Casey, Roxie (Duane) Byom, Ken (Delaine) Casey, Debbie (Bob) Fraust, and Bill (Ellen) Casey, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Wanda Sacia, Peggy Hilton, and brother-in-law, Irv Wagner, as well as many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 22 at Living Hope Lutheran Church in Ettrick, with his son, Pastor Ken Casey officiating. Friends and family may call from 12:30 pm until the time of the service. Burial will be immediately following the service at Ettrick Cemetery. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family with arrangements.

I would like to share my sincere sympathy to Lois, Steve, Roxie, Ken, Debbie, Bill, Spouses, and Grandchildren on the passing of my hero and friend Cletus. Sorry this is a little late but I was in northern Wisconsin last week and heard of His passing on Sunday afternoon.
I moved to this area from the northwoods thirty-some years ago and found a warm welcome from so many in Ettrick. Cletus, Lois, and the whole family made me feel like a real part of the Ettrick Community. We shared our Faith and many stories started by purchasing a vehicle he was selling.
I regret not spending more time with Cletus recently, but I know that He is with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, waiting to welcome All of Us to His Heavenly Home where there is no more pain and suffering!
Thanks for being my Friend, Sir, and God Bless You All!
