Daniel Joseph Price, 57, a cherished son, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle.

Known affectionately as Dan (Danny) and nicknamed “Whitey” in his youth due to his striking white hair, entered the world on September 2, 1966, born to John and Joan (Degenhardt) Price. Dan graduated from La Crosse Logan in the class of 1985 where he showcased his athleticism and fierce competitiveness. Notably, he achieved victory in the Stars of Tomorrow Tournament while playing for Rudy’s A&W and excelled as a pitcher, outfielder, and shortstop for the Logan High School baseball team. His passion extended to sports, particularly the Milwaukee Bucks and Brewers, Green Bay Packers, and all Wisconsin Badger teams.

In 1989 he exchanged vows with Deanna Hirschberger in La Crosse, WI and later divorced. Together they shared a son, Sean Price who has always been his pride and joy. He loved him beyond words. Sean is currently a Sargeant First Class for the Army National Guard in Madison, WI and was a source of immense pride for Dan, who would enthusiastically share his son’s accomplishments with anyone willing to listen.

In 1999, Dan married Susan Moore, after two decades of marriage, they divorced in 2019.

A diligent and meticulous individual he managed a car detailing business in Florida for several years. In 2001, he returned to La Crosse and was employed by City Brewery for 18 years. He took great pride in his work and his employers appreciated his reliability and strong work ethic. He received recognition for his safety achievements and was a team player, always willing to lend a hand where needed. He worked multiple shifts and many, many, MANY hours of overtime.

With no exaggeration – Dan was one of the kindest people on the planet. He had a heart of gold and wore his emotions on his sleeve. Many times, he was working through his own struggles, but would go out of his way to make sure everyone else’s needs were met. He cared deeply, even as a young boy. Dan was also goofy, silly, fun, and funny, sometimes even when he wasn’t trying to be, which only made him even more endearing. He loved hunting with his dad and brother, Scott. They could be in the woods all day, come home and re-live their day for hours. He always had entertaining stories to share about his adventures. He loved playing pool, cards, cribbage, slots, getting numbers for football games, camping, and fishing. He was always the first one on the ice and the last one off, (his family always waiting to hear that he had fallen through the ice to catch a fish), boating, and outdoor grilling.  Music and dancing brought him great joy.

Dan was never afraid to walk up to someone he didn’t know, smile, and introduce himself. He had many friends from all walks of life and will be greatly missed by all that loved him. He is preceded in death by his father, John Price-who was his best friend, maternal and paternal grandparents, infant daughter Melissa Lee Price and his dog Marley who brought him great comfort and unconditional love.  Dan is survived by his mother, Joan Price, son, Sean (Rachael) Price and a beautiful granddaughter Blake, sister Renee (Richard) Chrz, brother Scott (Heather) Price, niece Tori Price, many aunts, uncles, and cousins and many, many friends.

Dan fought bravely and mightily fought against demons, but eventually moved on to a better place. In remembrance of Dan’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Coulee Council on Addictions 933 Ferry Street, La Crosse, WI https://www.couleerecovery.org/donate or Wafer Food Pantry 1603 George St, La Crosse, WI 54603 https://waferlacrosse.org/donate/

The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Travis Wright at Gundersen Health System who really listened and tried to help. Your caring and extra efforts means more than you will ever know.

There will be a celebration of life at Goose Island County Park, at a later date this summer. To follow for updates please join us on Dan’s Celebration page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/761162105963046/?ref=share_group_link

So sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. He was our former next door neighbor and was always willing to lend us a hand. If we needed someone to dog sit or even catch a bird that accidentally flew into our house and landed behind our china hutch, Dan was there. To rescue the bird, Dan cleverly fished it out with his fishing rod and didn’t even injure the bird. He was a kind-hearted soul and will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with his family at this time. God Bless.
