David James Thompson, age 74, of Onalaska, Wisconsin passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Dave was born in La Crosse, WI on September 4, 1949 to Robert Thompson and Beverly (Jesse) Thompson. Following high school, he met his future wife Nancy Yeske and married on August 7, 1971 at Asbury Methodist Church in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Dave was employed by Xcel Energy for 24 years, retiring in 2013

Dave was happiest when he was outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and had wonderful memories of backpacking trips in the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming and Montana with his brother. His greatest joy was time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He’ll be remembered for his love of family, love for animals, wonderful sense of humor and his superb work ethic. He was very handy man, a perfectionist that was precise in everything he did. He was also a lifelong Wisconsin Badger football and basketball fan.

Dave is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy (Yeske) Thompson of Onalaska; two daughters, Kelly (Sam) Thompson-Ramirez of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kendra (Brandon) Wood of Kalispell, Montana; three grandchildren, Madelyn, Kyleigh and Jett. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Elizabeth) Thompson; sister, Margaret Peg (Thomas) Myhre; and a brother-in-law Wayne (Diane) Yeske. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law Harley Yeske and mother-in-law LaVon Yeske.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors and staff at Mayo Clinic Rochester, and Mayo Clinic Onalaska/La Crosse for their excellent care and compassion over the years. A special thank you to Sarah Schettle PA-C, Dr. Richard Rodeheffer, Dr. John Stulak, and Dr. Jon Heiderscheit.

In honor of his final wishes, there will be no services.

Condolences
