Deborah Lynn (Heyse) Seeber

A beautiful soul has been lifted to heaven. Deborah Lynn (Heyse) Seeber, 65, born July 21, 1955, passed from this life into life everlasting on January 12, 2021. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by those that loved her most.

Debbie was born in Elmhurst, Illinois to Howard and Elizabeth Heyse. She was one of eight children, with four sisters and three brothers. Deborah met the love of her life while working at Kmart in 1973. They married in 1976 and started their family with four children–Amy in 1977, Katie in 1980, Lisa in 1982, and Marcy in 1986.

Deb loved her four girls and supported them unconditionally. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them and with her extended family. Her favorite annual event was going on vacation to the Hayward, Wisconsin area where she spent a week of outdoor fun with lots of family. She especially loved the babies of the family, and everyone knew she had the special touch to calm them when they were crying. She loved to play Bingo and make crafts. She was an avid sports fan of Chicago sports teams, and had a special love for the Cubbies and the Bears.

Deb had a close friend group in Omaha that she loved to meet with spending hours just talking, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company.

In 1995, she received a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis and put up a brave and hard fight over the last 25 years. She had many special caretakers over the years, one of which became a close friend–Jackie Baures. Deb looked forward to visits from Jackie and would wait for her to watch the latest Dancing With The Stars episode. She also loved her daytime soap operas and the latest storylines were always a main topic of conversation on her weekly phone calls with her mom.

Deb was widely known as fun, kind, strong, brave, and welcoming. Everyone who entered her home over the years instantly felt like family. The home she shared with Mike became known as the “Seeber Hotel”, as she always offered people a place to stay when they needed it. Her favorite tenant became the son she never had, Pete Njos.

Deb ensured her children knew the value of sticking together. After relocating to Wisconsin, her whole clan regularly trekked to Illinois for holidays to stay connected with extended family. She especially valued spending time with her seven grandchildren, cheering them on and making cherished memories whenever possible. Her definition of family extended to her dogs throughout the years–Snickers, Sammy, Carmel, Sniper, and Gonzo who loved and protected her in the home. Deb always was more of a dog person than a cat person, but developed a soft spot for Abby cat and more recently for 2 kittens–Oreo and Bro–that were recently adopted into her home. The cats found comfort on her lap and she secretly enjoyed having them close.

Deb’s bright light shined on us all too briefly. Those who will miss her most are her loving husband, Mike Seeber of Holmen, WI; daughter Amy (David) Henkelmann of Chippewa Falls, WI; daughter Katie Seeber (Gerrod Defoe) of La Crosse, WI; daughter Lisa (Eric) Cahill of La Crosse, WI; daughter Marcy Seeber (Marcus Davis) of Holmen, WI; and their seven grandchildren: Brenden, Rylee, Jacey, Gavin, Laney, Jayson, and Maya. Deb is also survived by her devoted mother, Elizabeth Heyse of Des Plaines, IL; her four sisters Linda (Tom) Shanahan, Janice (Ray) Hoberg, Judy Heyse, Lori (Rahn) Hubbell; and three brothers Bill Heyse (the late Star Heyse), Ron (Janine) Heyse, Jim Heyse (Stacy Pettry); and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her father Howard Heyse, sister-in-law Star Heyse, father and mother-in-law Henry and Jeanne Seeber.

The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Inclusa, and especially to her caregivers from Innovative Services. Deb referred to them as “her girls” and always talked about the amazing care they provided.

A memorial service commemorating Deb’s life will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 1pm, with a visitation from 12pm to 1pm at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska.

Donations can be made in Deborah’s name to Coulee Region Humane Society.

Momma Seeber’s quietly scolding eyes will forever hold a place in my heart and memory – she always managed to have a twinge of love shine through even when our herd of trouble makers most definitely didn’t deserve it. So sincerely sorry for this truly heartbreaking loss – my love to you all.

Your Mother Will Be With YOU ALWAYS,

She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street.
She’s the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick, the fragrance of life itself.
She’s the cool hand on your brow when you’re not feeling well.
She’s your breath in the air on a cold winters’ day.
She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep, the colors of a rainbow.
    She is Christmas morning.
Your mother lives inside your laughter.
She’s the place you come from, your first home.
She’s the map you follow with every step you take.
She’s your first love, your first friend, even your first enemy.
But nothing on Earth can separate you.
    Not time.
    Not space.
    Not even death.

I was the first caregiver from Innovative Services. I liked working with Deb, especially when I told her I couldn’t put Bears clothing on her cause it would burn my fingers. We got such a great laugh out of that She would tell me it was football day and I had to put Bears clothes on whether I liked it or not. Rest In Peace !
