Obituary

Dona Lynne Kronberg

May 19, 2023 | 12 comments

Onalaska- On May 13, 2023 Dona Lynne Kronberg ended her brave and tenacious fight against cancer. Dona was surrounded by her immediate family as she peacefully passed away.

Born February 20, 1942 to Theodore and Rachel (McClintock) Luedtke, Dona was the eighth of ten beautiful Luedtke daughters. (No Boys Allowed!)

Among her many enviable attributes, Dona was a stalwart fighter and she continued battling until the bitter end.

Dona was an accomplished student, graduating 7th in her 1960 Sparta High School class. She was also a marching band majorette and a champion baton twirler.

Dona wed Dennis, her high school sweetheart, on May 27, 1961.

Although mainly a ‘stay-at-home’ Mom in her formative married years, raising and caring for three active children, Dona later found a rewarding career in the Onalaska school system, rising to Head Cook and Supervisor at the Onalaska High School.

Dona was a ‘natural’ head-turner! Anyone that knew her is aware that she took an enormous amount of pride in her appearance.

She enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, gardening, ceramics and rummage sales.  Dona also enjoyed an occasional Happy Hour, traveling, puzzles, crosswords and reading. Dona relished the opportunity to follow and attend her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Dona loved her family dearly.  Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life.  She was extremely close with her sisters and cherished every moment she had with them.  She loved holidays and always made them special.  Dona was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.  She touched the lives of so many people, will be truly missed and will never, ever be forgotten.

Dona is survived by her husband Dennis; children Annette (Marsha), Tony (Stephanie), and Michelle; grandchildren Kyle (Kellie), Matthew (Kim), and Jana; great grandchildren Lukas, Alice and Collette as well as sisters Marge Witt, Hattie Crook, Mary (Jerry) Cervinski, Connie (Dave) Libke, Cher (Ron) Hemker and brothers-in-law Bob (Penny) Kronberg and Richard (Peggy) Wright, loving dog Parker and grand-puppies.

Dona is preceded in death by her parents, infant Daughter (Mary) and sisters Helen, Shirley, Rita and Carmen.

A Celebration Of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Dona’s honor on May 26, 2023 at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska, WI. Visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Lymphoma/Leukemia Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Cancer Research Center are preferred.

Dona’s Family would like to recognize and thank the Professional Staff and diligent personnel at Gundersen Health Systems. You made a ‘world of difference’ for Dona.  Thank You!

Penny and I are very saddened by Dona’s passing❣️ One of my “cherished” memories of Dona is back when she and Brother Den were dating. Dona was working at the PX at ‘Camp’ McCoy and she would purchase/bring me little Army toys!

When I heard of Aunt Dona’s passing, I struggled to come up with the words to describe what she meant to me. I brushed aside all of the usual superlatives because she was, quite simply, wonderful. She was always smiling when I saw her, and she gave me my first nickname (if you know, you know). I will miss her.

I can’t begin to express my sadness of one of the most beautiful individuals I have had the pleasure of knowing. Her commitment and dedication to me and the high school students and staff is unmeasurable. Year after year in that hot kitchen never fazed her. That heat was radiated always with that beautiful smile and unwavering glowing and loving presence she emitted to everyone.
I embrace and treasure the unique and thoughtful gifts, wrapped with perfection,
I received that will forever hold my memories of this special angel.
I already see you and Mom, with a cup of jo in hand, sharing and listening to each others stories. Mom thought the world of you and Dennis.
My heart is heavy for you Dennis. What an incredible soldier you have been. An unbreakable bond you two have always had.A tender and loyal love for each other.
May God Bless and hold this family in your arms as they somehow try to get through the loss of their loved one.
