Elizabeth Ann Fletcher, 94, of La Crosse passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center (BSJ).  Liz was born October 26, 1931, in Eau Claire, WI to Lucille (Aubin) Hackey and Jerry Hackey. Being the second of their four children, she was of great help to her mother who worked the swing shift while her father was in the service. She lived on Oxford Avenue throughout her high school years.

On June 11, 1949, she married Richard Howell and lived in Kansas City, MO and Los Angeles, CA.  Two daughters were born. Liz with her two daughters returned to Eau Claire, WI in 1956 after they divorced.

As a single mom she supported the family working at Webster Candy.  She renewed school friendships and met George Fletcher while dancing.  They married February 24, 1962, and moved to Menomonie, WI and moved several more times.

Liz loved people and they always enjoyed her humor. She worked as a receptionist, housekeeper, & retail sales.  Her hobbies included crafting, bird watching, sewing, baking, gardening, snowmobiling, & spending time with family and friends.  Liz was a proudly enrolled member of the Bois Fort Band of Chippewa.

As empty nesters, George and Liz moved to Clam Lake, WI to enjoy their love of the outdoors and snowmobiling.  Together they built a log home using lumber from their land.  As an animal lover, Liz enjoyed the many wild animals and raising Cocker Spaniel dogs.

Retirement brought the couple to Hayward, WI and after George passed in 2013, Liz moved to Galesville, WI to be near family.

Preceded in death by husbands, George Fletcher & Richard Howell; mother, Lucille Lawrence; father, Jerry Hackey; sisters, Marlene Erickson (Marshall) Betty Yernatich Macko; brothers, Jerry (Sonny) Hackey Jr & John Hackey Sr (Audrey).

Liz will be greatly missed by her daughters Jennifer Lorenzen (Gary) Forest Lake, MN and Cathy Bellesbach (Michael) Trempealeau, WI; 4 grandchildren, Amy Lorenzen, Crystill Boomgarden (Dave), Stephanie Weigel (Duff), Danielle Bellesbach (John). 7 great grandchildren; Jonathan & Rowan Boomgarden, Cole(deceased) & Dylan Thompson, Devin Bellesbach (Anya), Brennon & Maysen Olson and many nieces and nephews.

Liz’s family would like to express our deepest appreciation to the excellent care & love she received at BSJ.  Thank you to Chaplain Emma Blank for her friendship & visits enjoyed by Liz.
