Erik Jon Iverson

May 23, 2024 | 7 comments

Erik Jon Iverson, 54, of Winona, MN passed peacefully in his home on May 16, 2024.

Erik was born on June 3, 1969, to Carl and Rhea Iverson and spent most of his childhood and the remainder of his life living in rural Winona, near Twin Bluffs.

He attended Winona public schools and worked at the Winona Occupational Rehabilitation Center (ORC) for 33 years. For the past 18 months, he has been at the Winona Developmental Achievement Center (DAC) and the Benedictine Adult Day Center. In the past, he enjoyed the support and people at Home and Community Options (HCO). Erik loved going to Camp Winnebago near Caledonia. He attended the weekly camp for over 20 years!

Erik was passionate about watching the Green Bay Packers and professional wrestling. His favorite wrestler was Hulk Hogan. He loved to laugh and his smile was contagious to anyone who spent just a few moments with him. Wherever he went, it seemed someone always knew him and whether he knew them or not, he would always say, ”Hi!”

Erik was preceded in death by his grandparents Leo and Irene Hundt of La Crosse and Clem and Natalie Iverson of Dakota. He is survived by his parents Carl and Rhea Iverson, siblings Traci (Dan) Larson and Craig Iverson and partner Marissa Pennoyer, nieces Kayla Larson and boyfriend Tyler Leinen, and Brianna (husband David Meincke) Larson, and great niece Freya Meincke.

A memorial service will be held at the American Legion, 302 E Sarnia St, Winona, MN 55987 on Saturday, June 29, 1-4 pm. Instead of flowers, donations to the Winona Day Achievement Center (DAC) would be greatly appreciated.

He taught me more about life than just about any one I ever knew
Please take this the right way
A person who is mentally or physically disabled is nothing more then a misunderstood genius
To make the point the overwhelming discoveries and inventions are and have been discovered and invented by people that have been mentally and physically disabled and Erik the great in his own little way was a genius he brought me great joy! Pax’e’christi Erik the great Pax’e’christi

I used to ride the school bus with Erik in elementary school. He had such a kind spirit. I remember him fondly.
