Obituary

Frederick G. “Fred” Baures

August 28, 2026 | 6 comments

Fred was born on Jan 19th, 1955, to Sylvan and Janice (Davidson) Baures.

His ALS fight ended peacefully on Wed Aug 26th, 2026, in his home surrounded by loved ones. He retired from Empire Screen Print in Onalaska after 30 years when turned 65.

Fred was always the happiest outdoors, whether hiking, hunting, bike riding, and of course fishing a trout steam, Mississippi river or lake Onalaska. Happy to go alone or with one or two of his many fishing buddies.

During his ALS journey, he found joy in watching the Brewers, Packers and WI Badgers. All the friends and family that visited and shared stories of the past. Had many fish fries with Monzi’s help, a lot of work, but loved every minute of it.

Special thank you to Don Emery for his continuous support and help with anything needed. Paul Micke for visiting every week to give him a hard time and keep him on his toes. Nancy and Tim Godden for getting the duplex ready to rent so Ronda could focus on Fred.

ALS may have won in the end, but his since of humor and love for friends and family, including his cat Nelly, never wavered.

He is survived by his life partner Ronda (North) Waldera, brother Tom Baures, sisters Nancy (Tim) Godden, Sue (Kevin) Greenwood, and Ruth (Mike) Butterbrodt. many nieces and nephews.

Thank you to Gundersen Hospice, Dr Larry, nurse Jeanette and many more. Wonderful group of calming, kind and respectful people doing a very hard job.

Celebration of life will be Sunday, September 27th, noon to 3pm at the Onalaska American Legion banquet room.

Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family during this difficult time.

I was a teammate of Fred on some of Monzi’s basketball teams. He was a great guy on and off the court. Jim Haskins
