Glen Solberg, 85, of Ettrick, WI died on July 9th.  He was born on September 23, 1932 to Fred and Mabel Solberg, and grew up in Yucatan, MN, where his family operated the Yucatan Creamery.  He married Avis Dvergsten in 1955,  served as Army Sgt.E5, 82nd Airborne during the Korean war, and later worked as a carpenter, a chef, and a restaurant owner. In his later years, he worked at Ashley Furniture.

He is survived by his wife Avis; his sister June (Dale) Omodt of Houston, MN; his children Pam Solberg (Steve McDougal) of Ettrick;  Peter Solberg of Winona,  Patti Carraux  (Gary Meyer) of Dakota, MN;  Penny Every of Onalaska; Paige (Eric) Barnes of La Crescent; and Phillip  (Sheryl) Solberg of La Crosse. He was also grandpa to 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and uncle and great uncle to many others. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Merle, Eugene, and Bradley; and his sisters Elizabeth, Winnie, Shirley, and Helen.

Glen was always interested in learning and doing something new.  He loved going on road trips, flying small planes, doing nature photography, and woodworking.  He enjoyed his pickups and his lawnmowers, his dogs, and his local coffee klatch.  He was a member of Living Hope Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 354 in Ettrick.

He will be dearly missed by his whole family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the light of his life. They will remember movie dates and amusement parks with grandpa,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        his Christmas-time appearances as Santa, rides on the lawnmower and four-wheeler, and lots of laughing and jokes.  He was a kind and witty man and a wonderful father and role model.

Visitation will be held at Living Hope Lutheran Church in Ettrick, WI from 10 am – noon on Saturday, July 14th, followed by a funeral service at noon.  Internment will be in the Yucatan Cemetery at a future date.

Memorials may be made to the Living Hope Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Condolences
