Obituary
James “Jim” Alan Mayer
James “Jim” Alan Mayer (Age 62)
James “Jim” Alan Mayer of Onalaska, Wisconsin, passed away on April 27th, 2026. He was born July 8th, 1963, in Burbank, Illinois, the second son of Thomas F. Mayer and Maraveen M. Mayer.
Jim was a man of deep and unwavering faith, which guided the way he lived, loved, and cared for others. His faith in Jesus was not just something he believed, but something he lived out daily through his kindness, compassion, and the way he treated everyone he met.
He was known for his natural ability to work with his hands and his genuine connection with people. Despite a hearing-related disability, he built an interesting and successful career, including time as a grocery store manager in New Jersey, a tow truck operator, and working alongside his father in the family’s fresh meat brokerage in Brookfield, Wisconsin. He later spent 27 years at L.B. White in Onalaska, where his dedication and work ethic were evident, as he continued working up until his hospitalization.
A devoted son, Jim lovingly cared for his mother following his father’s passing, remaining by her side until her passing at the age of 94.
For more than a decade, Jim faced cancer and the long-term effects of treatment with quiet strength and resilience. Through it all, his faith remained steady, giving him peace and strength in even the most difficult moments.
Jim was truly one of a kind—the kind of person who made others feel seen, valued, and welcome. Anyone who had the privilege of being part of his life knows how special he was.
He is survived by his brother
Thomas (Bo) Mayer of AZ., Niece Allison L. Mayer of the East Coast, and many friends who were like family, including his “bestie,” Jualie (James)Kirby, whose unwavering support and care meant so much to him, along with a multitude of friends and extended family members.
Jualie and family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Mayo ICU and 5A Med for their compassionate care and attentiveness during Jim’s final days.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
Jim will be deeply and sorely missed, as he is now in God’s hands.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Jim was such a nice guy, taken far too soon. Thinking of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, especially Jualie. ❤️
