Janice M. Steiger, 92 of Onalaska Wi. Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Mayo Health System in LaCrosse, Wi.
Janice was born September 1,1927 to Hastings and Ione (Shupe) Baird in Loyal,Wi.
She grew up in Greenwood, Wi and attended Greenwood schools until she graduated in 1945. She went on to beauty school in Eau Claire, Wi and received a degree in Cosmetology.
On November 15, 1947 she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life Kenneth Steiger. They were married at the Westside Immanuel United Church of Christ in Greenwood, Wi. They lived in Greenwood and raised their 3 children.
Pamela ( Brad) Johnson, Plover, Wi.  Steve ( Candi) Steiger Balsam Lake, Wi. Lori (Bob) Kennedy Onalaska, Wi. Eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jan lived her life for her family and her passion for cooking and baking. Her “goodies” were appreciated by all who knew her. She would ask you what you liked and you could always depend on receiving that “ treat” shortly. Her love for cooking prompted her to publish her own cookbook that family and friends now treasure.
Jan’s love for her family extended especially to her grandchildren who she helped care for over the years as they grew up, who she talked with weekly and asked about daily.
She and Ken were so proud of them and the great- grandchildren. She loved their visits and hugs.
Jan and Ken lived a simple life of love and faith that truly was remarkable. They were married 72 years and never apart. She always said “ the moment I met him I knew I would marry him”   And she did. Ken died on October 5, of 2019 and she missed him dearly everyday. It is incredibly a rare blessing to share a love story for over 72 years and now they will continue it for eternity.
Jan is survived by two sisters. Virginia Engle Sun Lakes, AZ. Donna Mae ( Norman) Larson of Deforest Wi. She was preceded in death by her parents Hastings and Ione Baird, Jerry Baird, and Robert Baird  both of Stevens Point, Wi.
Thank you to Mayo Health System, Dr. Nancy Erickson, Palliative/Hospice care for their compassionate and loving care they gave Jan over the years and these last few months. Your love and care will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to the Mayo Hospice in her name.
A joint memorial service will be held for Jan and Ken on June 6, 2020.
The love of a wonderful Mother is something that always lives on. Filling the days with sweet memories long after her presence is gone. You still feel the warmth of her caring, her wisdom will never depart, for the love of a wonderful mother forever lives on in our hearts.
Love you forever!

A memorial service will be held for Ken and Jan at 12:30pm on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St. Onalaska, with visitation from 10:00am until the time of the service.

Jan gave me her Cosmetology book from her school. So fun to read! Yes, they were inseperable!

With mixed emotions of sadness and joy. Missing this dear lady, but joyful in the knowledge that she and Ken are in the same room of the mansion Christ promises for us all! They never were apart in spirit, but for a short while in body.

Jan was one of my favorites! I was lucky enough to get a copy of her cookbook! I, too, love to bake and will always remember her. Such a sweet lady! I’m sure they are happy to be together once again! Such a sweet couple! Thinking of you, Lori, during this sad time!
