Obituary

Jessica Lynn Mayer

July 29, 2020 | 12 comments

Jessica Mayer died suddenly at her home on July 26, 2020, she was 39 years old. Jessie was the love of her family and friends’ lives. She was the big sister everyone needed; kind and compassionate, always willing to listen and support you. She was a pillar of strength, who always put others first.

Jessie was born to Mike and Cindy Gilbertson in 1981. She was joined by sister Sara and brother Chris. The trio became a fun-loving boisterous group who shook the house with love, laughter and mischief.

After graduation from Winona Sr. High, she studied at Western Technical College where she earned her Associates of Science and became a medical assistant for Gundersen Health. She was always known as a calm and comforting presence in times of uncertainty. She brought out the best in others and despite challenges she faced, she always found things to smile and laugh about.

In 2003 she was united in marriage to John Mayer and they had three beautiful children whom both parents adored. Their lives revolved around family, friends and creating so many wonderful memories,
that will never be forgotten.

Since losing her husband, she lived life to the fullest, family nights, dinners, trips, pool time, camping (RV style), sharing adventures and making new friendships. Her favorite activity was making memories with her family and friends.

She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her. To quote Jessie’s dear friend, “How lucky we are to have someone in our lives that saying goodbye to is so very hard”.

She is survived by her three children, Carson, Logan and Preston and her boyfriend Scott Stuber. Her parents Mike and Cindy Gilbertson; her sister Sara (Zak) Fellman and their children Glady and Wynn; her brother Chris (Annette) Gilbertson (twins). Uncle Tom (Janann) Gilbertson and their children Jared, Jade, Talyn, Tate and Taiya. Aunt Andrea (Matt) Mlynczak and their children, Lance and Angela.

She is further survived by her Godmother/Aunt LN (Steve) Modjeski, their children Megan (fiancé Andrew) and Alex Modjeski; Uncle Tim (Lee) Donahue, their children Stephanie (Stephan) Mahler and Christopher Donahue. She is survived by Aunt Mary (Steve deceased) Donahue and daughter Valerie. She is also survived by many other relatives and great friends.

We have set up an account through G.E.C.U. for the boys. If you would like to donate to the fund please send checks to G.E.C.U at 225 La Crosse Street P.O. Box 579 La Crosse, WI 54602. Even though we went separate directions after high school I will never forget the good times we had growing up together in the valley or the passing by’s in the cardiology dept at gundersen. You had the brightest smile and will never be forgotten.

Oh, Jess…I haven’t worked with you for 10 yrs but it hurts so much to hear you’ve passed. You made every day of work a joy and always had a smile for everyone. I will always remember your excitement over so many events in your life and I’m grateful to have shared those moments. I pray that you are in Our Father’s arms and that your sons will have the love and support they’ll need for their lives.
