Karen Jean Godwin

Karen Jean Godwin, 74, of Onalaska passed away July 3, 2019 in her home surrounded by loved ones.

She was born to the late Eugene and Alva Allen, July 31, 1944 in Hastings, Nebraska. She graduated from Palo Duro high school in 1964 and received a AAS in Art from Amarillo College, TX in 1965.

Karen married Thomas Godwin in 1965. They enjoyed 54 wonderful years together.

Karen is survived by her husband Thomas. Two children, Jennifer (Bart) of Whitehall, Tom (Jamie) of Okemos, MI. Five grandchildren: Mandi (David) of Sparta, Amber (Isiah) of Onalaska, Laura (Andrew) of Beaver Dam, Miranda of Onalaska and Olivia of Okemos, MI. One great-grandson Noah of Sparta. Three siblings: David (Debbie) of Onalaska, Kathy (Gerry) of Onalaska and Steve of Desoto. And many other friends and family.

Karen was proceeded in death by her parents Eugene and Alva, son-in-law Randy, sister Carol and close friend Lenora.

Karen was an avid reader, helped author a book with husband Thomas, enjoyed the daily crossword. She was a talented artist using mixed media, photography and enjoyed all types of crafting. Enjoyed watching NCIS and cooking shows. Karen loved to travel and had been to many places as an air force “brat” and as an air force wife. She made friends where ever she went and was loved by all. Her witty humor and warm hugs will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank Mayo Clinic Cancer Center for their dedication and care over the last 10 years, especially Dr. Cagin, Dr. Gill and Dr. Ohlrogge and their staff. Mayo Clinic Hospice for their care in her last few days, as well as the staff of Coulee Region Cremation Group.

Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 8th, 2019 at the Gathering Place, 133 Mason St., Onalaska.  Pastor Ted Dewald will officiate.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
