Karen Walker, 72, cherished mother, sister-in-law & friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026 at Gundersen Hospital with her daughter and daughter’s finance, Andrew, by her side.
Karen was born in Cashton, WI on August 3, 1954 to Maribel (Degenhardt) and Levi Klinkner. She was the youngest of 4 girls. She lived in Cashton through high school when she decided to explore a new city and landed in Madison, WI where she found work at the VA Hospital. She eventually moved up to be a medical assistant. There she met the love of her life, who she married and had a daughter with, Elizabeth. They divorced a short time later.
Being a single mom, she moved back to La Crosse, WI to be closer to family. With her medical background, she got a job at Gundersen Clinic. She learned a lot there and met some wonderful people. She worked hard and did everything she could for her daughter. In 1996 she purchased her home and was excited to use her good taste to decorate it. She loved making the house a “home”. She loved working in the yard, gardening, and ra ising her daughter and pets. She had a giving heart and loved taking care of patients at work.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth, Andrew (Beth’s fiance), a brother-in-law, along with many friends and her beloved pets, Nikita, Lucy & Chloe. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters: Patricia, Paula, & Diane.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Gundersen Hospital, Tri-State Ambulance Service, and the First Responders for the care they showed Karen during her illness.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 1-2 pm at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska WI 54650. A brief prayer service will follow at 2pm. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.

I had the honor of working with Karen. She was a dedicated mother, an excellent Medical Assistant, and a wonderful friend.

My condolences to you on the passing of your mom. While growing up in Cashton, we lived next door to your grandma & grandpa and all 4 girls. Your mom & Diane used to babysit us. Your mom was also my confirmation sponsor. We had some great times. I had just chatted with your mom a few weeks ago. Rest in peace Karen!
It was my pleasure to work with Karen and know her for many years prior.She was my friend as well as coworker. Be at peace.
Was lucky enough to spend several years working with Karen. She was a dedicated worker, and gave her best. She excelled her wonderful care to each patient. while sharing that beautiful smile.

I am so sorry to read about Karen’s passing. You, Beth was the apple of her eye, you were her everything. we enjoyed sharing stories about our girls. I worked with her at Gundersen but loss touch as life for each changed. I enjoyed her friendship. I cannot attend her celebration of life as I do have a commitment. I hope that her memories shared with you will help you during this difficult time. Again, sorry.
