Kyle Steven Schlafer

Kyle Steven Schlafer passed away Friday, May 21 at Mayo Health in La Crosse, WI. He was born in La Crosse, WI on August 24, 1981 to Mark Schlafer and Deborah (Roberts) Young. He graduated from Central High School in June of 1999.

Kyle tried and became successful in most sports, especially golf, bowling, and wrestling. He was always proud to be a member of the Central High School wrestling team for his 4 high school years. He was very excited and proud to have his brother Lucas as a Varsity teammate his senior year. Kyle also loved to fish and spend time with family, especially his Grandpa Ken Roberts, who taught him to fish. Kyle was a gentle, kind, and caring soul who loved his family dearly. His final act was to be an organ donor and did save numerous lives with his gifts. He will be forever missed.

He is survived by his mother Deborah (Terry) Young; father, Mark (Linda Miles) Schlafer; brother, Lucas (Ashley) Schlafer; nephew, Dawson; nieces, Harper and Daisy; maternal grandmother, Rita (Douglas) Johnson; aunt, Marlene Anderson; great-aunt, Sandra Howell, and many other uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Amanda; maternal grandfather, Kenneth Roberts; paternal grandparents, Mike and Maggie Schlafer; aunt, Marilyn Kinsey; uncle, Roger Kinsey; uncle, Michael Schlafer, and cousin, Kelly Kinsey.

A service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021 at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St, Onalaska, WI 54650. A visitation will take place from 4 p.m. until the start of the service.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mayo ICU and the staff of UW Health organ donation team for their kindness, concern, and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

    So damn sorry to hear that Kyle is no longer with us!!
    I Think that I met Kyle about 18 years ??
    My fondest memory of Kyle was 8 or 9 years ago…
    I was scheduled to work on Thanksgiving day…., Kyle dropped me off at work!!
    Like 30 minutes later, Kyle picked me up; because I had Thanksgiving off!
    Kyle invited me to celebrate Thanksgiving dinner with his whole family!!
    That’s the absolute truth; Kyle was a great friend!!

    I was friends with and went to high school with Kyle. He was a great dude and I always remember him as kind and willing to help out. I would see him again every few years when I’d be home on leave from military service; he was still the good friend I remembered. RIP brother!
