Obituary
Linda G. Johnson
Linda G. Johnson, 84, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, after a battle with dementia, with her husband Roger and daughter Sandra at her side.
Linda was born in La Crosse on October 14, 1941, to Paul and Lulu Mildred (Bender) Kilian. She grew up on a dairy farm in Mormon Coulee. Although many of her more recent memories faded due to dementia, her cherished memories of growing up on the farm never left her.
On September 30, 1961, she married the love of her life, Roger D. Johnson. Together they built a loving home and raised three children — Bryon, Craig, and Sandra — instilling in them strong family values and a deep appreciation for togetherness.
Linda was a devoted stay-at-home mother until her children were older, at which time she began working for B. C. Ziegler and Company, where she remained until retirement. She also faithfully served her community by working at the election polls for many years.
Family was at the center of Linda’s life. She treasured time spent with loved ones and proudly attended every annual family reunion from the early 1970s through last year. She especially enjoyed annual lake weekends at Lake Waubesa in McFarland, playing cards, relaxing on the deck with Roger, sipping a Viva Riva vodka gimlet, and visiting with friends and neighbors.
Linda is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roger; her children, Bryon (fiancée Lara Swiersz) Johnson, Craig (Diane) Johnson, and Sandra (Gary Gruenke) Thill; her grandchildren, Devon (Britney) Johnson, Kendal Johnson, Tyler (Lanie) Johnson, Zachary Johnson, Cassie Thill, and Carter Thill; and her great-granddaughter, Olivia Lynn Johnson. She is also survived by her sister, Karee (Doug) Galster, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Katherine and Kenneth Swett.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the entire Emplify Health by Gundersen Hospice team, especially Scott Stine, Alli Emrich, and Jess Bumgarner, as well as the caring staff at SpringBrook Assisted Living and Memory Care in Onalaska, for the compassion and care they provided to Linda and her family.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Monday, May 11, at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street in Onalaska. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., with the service beginning at 12:30 p.m. A luncheon will follow at The Gathering Place. A private burial will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery in Mormon Coulee at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in Linda’s name to the local Alzheimer’s Association, Emplify Health by Gundersen Hospice, or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family with arrangements.

We are very sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. She was a genuine great individual who impacted everyone around her. She sure had an impact on me. I have so many great memories sitting and visiting with Roger and Linda with some cold ones always close by! She will truly be missed but always close to our hearts and will never be forgotten. Our deepest sympathies to the family and to all who knew her.
Rest in peace Linda / Mom

Our sympathy to Roger and the family. Linda and I were classmates at Central years ago, and then our children (some) were classmates at Hogan too. She was a sweet lady.
Cherish the memories.
We are so sorry.
Rest in Peace Linda.
