Mary Ruth (Daley) Hinze

October 20, 2021 | 7 comments

Mary Ruth (Daley) Hinze, 76, of Onalaska,WI, passed peacefully into heaven on October 19th, 2021.  Born October 31st, 1944, in La Crosse, WI. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Richard & Ruth Signore (Iverson) Daley.  Mary had a wonderful childhood growing up on Vine Street with her friends, they had affectionately named the “Vine Street Gang”, and her lifelong friend, Patty (Dwyer) Strittmater.

Graduating in 1962 from Aquinas, Mary excelled in music with passions for playing the piano and singing in the The Triple Trio.  While attending UWL Mary met the love of her life, Les Hinze and they were married on August 17th, 1963.  She was very proud of being married for 58 wonderful years.

Mary did an amazing job of raising their three children: Sarah Hinze-Pataska (fianće Tom Reed) of La Crosse, WI; Dr. Mark Hinze (Kathryn) of Hartland, WI; Nathan Hinze (LaDonna) of Gilbert AZ.  Afterwards she had a very successful nursing career at Gundersen hospital and Nutri-System.

Being born on Halloween, she was always proud of being a “Halloween baby”.  Having Les decorate their home and lawn for the whole neighborhood to view and for all the children to enjoy.  We shall all miss the wonderful meals and holidays with our loving wife,  Mother, and Grandma.  Mary never shied away from a new recipe or cooking for a large group.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dr. Robert Daley, and her sister Patricia Ann (Daley) Savage.  She shall be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Zachary Pataska, Abigail Schultz, Annebelle Schultz, Kyla Hinze, Lilia Hinze, Noelani Dalton, and Daerick Dalton and many nieces and nephews.

Mary’s family would also like to thank the staff at Mulder Health Care Facility for the wonderful care they’ve given Mary over the years.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 5, 2021 at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St. Onalaska, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of the service.  Face masks are recommended.

Condolences

I have so many sweet memories of my Aunt Mary, who always had an encouraging or funny thing to say. She and my Mom seemed like “twins” in many ways…I will miss her so much..

My Aunt Mary: you always brought such a light and joyous presence when I was around you. In the winter times when we came to LaCrosse and went ice skating or were playing in the snow and cold you were always in there with us. In the summers it was fishing with Grandpa Daley and you. I still remember going to to Spooner Bat WI for that week ans you made it a special week. I could go on with other memories of you. The last times we talked you bragged on all you kids and grandkids and I loved hearing that. You talked about Uncle Les and how he was there with you. You were and are an encouraging person in all our lives and for that I say thank you. Love you Aunt Mary.

It’s still so very hard to comprehend. What a wonderful woman, mom and friend. She taught me so much about life and how to live it. How to raise my twins. I want to thank my father for all he has given of himself out of love for her in the last several years. Both a wonderful mother and father. The Lord has blessed us.

Mary was a good neighbor and friend to Greg’s parents, even as her health declined. We are grateful to have known her through those years and appreciate the friendship they maintained. We ask God’s blessing on Mary’s family as they heal from her loss.

I would like to extend my sympathy and prayers to the family of Mary Daley Hinze. She had the most beautiful smile and wonderful personality. Mary and I attended Aquinas High School together and she always had the best sense of humor . We would occasionally meet over the years and I always left with a smile after talking with her.
