Obituary

Michael Charles Brown

August 23, 2022 | 8 comments

Michael (Mike) Charles Brown, age 63 of Onalaska, passed away unexpectedly on August 8, 2022, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Virginia Brown, his half-brother Eugene Brown, sister-in-law Marguerite Brown, his niece Deborah Gannon, and nephew Thomas Brown.

Michael is survived by his daughter Stephanie Harm (Shawn), grandson Ryland, half sister Marilyn Servais (Robert), sister Joanie DeVore-Gutierrez (Fabian), plus many other family members and friends that he called family.

In his youth, Mike enjoyed Boy Scouts, camping, football, hockey, and generally running around the river and Powell Park area. Mike graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1976 and he particularly cherished a few longstanding friendships that he still maintained from his childhood.

Mike had a passion for boating, especially when it involved hunting and fishing. He was a talented carpenter and spent his life working in and around the building environment. He taught himself to speak French and was considered by many to be an excellent dog trainer. He loved dogs and each one he owned was very special to him.

Although Mike spent some time traveling and living elsewhere around the country, he eventually moved back to his hometown area to be closer to his daughter, her family, and many lifelong friends. Since his return to the area in 2017, he could be found at the end of each workday hanging out with friends, dispensing wisdom (and bad jokes), while having a drink. Self-proclaimed inventor of the “15”, he had a huge personality and will be missed by many.

The family will hold a private interment ceremony and a Celebration of Life is planned for October 15, 2022, from 12pm until 4pm, at the Blue Moon in Onalaska, WI. Further details will be posted on social media.

So sorry to hear about Mike. Just saw him at blue moon and chatted of old times and old friends. Hadn’t seen him in years and we had fun catching up. I am so sad to hear this. My sympathy to his family.

I received an email from Mike a few weeks before he passed away. He concluded the email with an invitation to go drinking the next time I’m in town. I will be at his memorial in spirit and will raise a glass to him the next time I’m in La Crosse.
