Michael Joe Ihle, 82, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on September 23rd with family by his side.

He was born in Anna, Illinois on June 20th to Leonard and Eva Ihle. Michael moved to Juneau, Alaska as a child and graduated there. He joined the Air Force at age 18 and honorably retired after 20 years from the Intelligence Service. He received many medals and decorations through his military career showcasing his honor and devotion to duty, as well as his commendation and meritorious service while assigned to the Special Investigations and Intelligence Group. His military career and assignments took his family around the world.

Michael married Irene and together they had three daughters. They later divorced but together they continued to remain supportive, amicable and pillars of the family. Michael was an amazing father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to fish, gamble and have cook outs with his family. He is survived by his three daughters… Kristine Ihle, Cheryl Ihle and Mary Ihle-Olson. He is also survived by Erik Olson (son-in law) and Mike Marty (grandson-in-law) who he considered and loved as his own children. He is also survived by four grandchildren… Chloe Marty, Francis Sprecher, Marquise Ihle and Elijah Ihle… and one great granddaughter, Mazzy Marty.

The family would like to thank the Intensive Care Unit at Mayo Hospital for their care and compassion they not only showed Michael, but the support and strength they gave the family during this time.

There will be no service or memorial. Instead, members of his family will be taking his ashes to Alaska this summer for a private celebration of life.

Condolences
