Obituary

Olivia L Severson

October 11, 2021 | 8 comments

Olivia L Severson, 44, of Onalaska, WI  passed away after a valiant two year long fight against cancer on October 9th, 2021. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness and enormous generosity. So many friends and family members are left grieving her loss, including the love of her life, Timothy Wing, as well as her mother, Gail Severson, her sister, Leah Severson-Thoma, her brother, Robert Severson and her nephew, Emerson Thoma. Olivia graduated in 1999 from Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI with her bachelors’ degree in nursing. She then went on to a two decade long career at Gunderson Hospital, delivering what seemed like half of the region’s babies! She absolutely adored taking care of other people’s newborns, but when it came to having her own children, she chose the four legged kind. She was “mom” to six dogs and four cats at the end of her life and she gave them as much love and affection as most human children receive. She also considered being the world’s best aunt her calling in life and gave her only nephew, Emerson, the most amazing six years any boy could ask for. She always said she fought cancer so defiantly in order to spend more time and make more memories with him. Olivia really did live life to the fullest and, if you knew her well, you know she always brought the life to the party- I sure hope heaven is ready for their Jell-O shots!

For those who wish to join her family in a remembrance and celebration of her well-lived, but too short life, there will be service at The Gathering Place.  A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday October 23, at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St. Onalaska, visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of the service.

Before she passed, Olivia asked that in lieu of flowers, you would direct all memorials to Emerson Thoma so he can continue to make memories like his aunt would want him to.

Condolences

My heart goes out to Tim and the rest of Olivia’s family. I always enjoyed our chats and appreciated Olivia’s patronage at our estate sales. We definitely shared the same enthusiasm for treasure hunting and sharing stories. Auctions won’t ever be quite the same without her.

To Tim, Family and Friends, I am so sorry for your loss. Olivia was a wonderful person and full of life, care and compassion. I worked with Olivia at the hospital and loved when she would attend a birth with me. I always knew that baby would be given a little extra love as they met their new family. She was known for her expertise, going the extra mile and for the beautiful crib cards she would make after delivery. This card would be decorated with baby’s name on it and would adorn the bassinet while baby was in the hospital. Olivia will be so missed. Blessing to you, Tim, her family and friends during this difficult time. You are all in my thoughts and prayers…

My heartfelt sympathy to Tim and the people Olivia considered her family and friends. Olivia was a strong and loving person. Her love for dogs and cats was but one way she demonstrated her kindness towards others. She was a wonderful human being whom I was proud to call my niece. So, rest in peace dear Olivia, you will be missed by everyone who ever knew you.
