Peter ‘Pete’ M. Nelson
Peter ‘Pete’ M. Nelson left his family and friends on June 22, 2026, for a better place, due to health complications causing postsurgical complications. Several family members were at his bedside.
Pete was born June 2, 1947, in Whitehall, Wisconsin, to Spencer M. and Marian E. (Gutow) Nelson.
After graduating from Blair High School, Pete entered into the US Army in 1963, proudly serving his country, with discharge in 1969. He then worked at Fort McCoy until his retirement.
Pete leaves behind brothers Thomas (Jane) and Bruce (Rita), nieces Catherine (Ryan), Kimberlee (John), and Jeanne (Chad), nephews Matt (Billie), Chris, and Troy, several great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind friends, including several from the Beaches Corner Classic Tractor Club and the Iowa Rivers and Bluffs Classic Tractor Club.
Pete was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister, Diane, and brother, Milton.
A celebration of Pete’s life will be held August 22, 2026, from 12 to 5, in the Blair Park at the enclosed shelter closest to the pool. Please wear something red in honor of Pete and his Farmall tractor.
The family would like to thank the staff of the 4th floor ICU at Mayo in La Crosse who provided compassion and excellent care to Pete and his family; they went above and beyond in the care they provided. Special thank you to Catherine for years of being there and helping Pete.
There will be a private graveside service with military honors.
