Richard Duane Selin

May 10, 2023 | 3 comments

Richard Duane Selin went home to be with his Lord on May 2nd, 2023. He was born to Alvin and Borghild Selin on October 29, 1947 in Viroqua, WI, as the first cesarean birth in Vernon County. After he graduated from Viroqua High School in 1965, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he served until 1969. It was while he was in the Air Force that he met and married his first wife, Kathy Kelley. Together, they had 4 children: Tim (Julie) Selin, Michelle (Sam) Kiger, Jason Selin, and Brad (Jen) Selin.

Rick moved back to Wisconsin and reconnected with his High School sweetheart, Rita Ostrem, who, with her late husband, had had 2 girls: Rikka (Brent) Hancock, and Stephanie Hass. In 1984, they combined their families, as they wed on August 25th, in Galesville, Wisconsin.

Since Rick had been in sales and service his whole life, it seemed only natural for him and Rita to start their own business. R&R Sales and Service was created, and together they sold and serviced campers until their retirement in 1991.

They bought a motorhome and became snowbirds. Their summers were spent in Wisconsin, in Brent and Rikka’s backyard on the farm, but come winter, they packed up and traveled south to Texas, where they made many life long friends. It was there, in 2009, in Texas, that they became members of the WELS church.

Rick and Rita enjoyed traveling and did so as often as they could, especially enjoying their trips to Norway to visit family.

They were blessed with many grandchildren. Alyssa and Madison Selin, Sam and Wes Kiger, Nick and Jackson Selin, Steven (Darrien) Hancock, Zachary, Timothy, Brandon, Darren, Nick, Becky, Gloria, Ashlee, Allison and Julianna Hancock, Sara (Joe) Cartwright, Laura Indahl, Thea and Troy Hass, and Harrison Pellowski.

And, even GREAT Grandchildren: Riley, Grayson, Vincent, Journey, Octavia, Saryah, Joe, Levi, Mason and Carter.

Please join us Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church, N6598 County Road A, Black River Falls, WI. Visitation will be at 10 AM, followed by an 11 AM Service. Please join us for a meal following the service.

Condolences
