Robert L. “Bobby” Butterfield

March 16, 2023 | 43 comments

Robert “Bobby” Lucas Butterfield, 32, of La Crosse Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Friday March 10, 2023. He was born May 7, 1990 in La Crosse, WI  to Steven and Debra Butterfield. His life was too brief and will be missed beyond measure.
Bobby was a natural born athlete who loved baseball and golf. He spent many of his summer days golfing with his brothers and nephew.  He graduated from Logan High School in 2008 where he excelled in sports, especially baseball. After high school he and his brothers continued their father’s tradition of playing city softball together and even won a few city championships. He was a quiet, observant person who never liked attention. When he spoke it was always something thoughtful and meaningful. He truly enjoyed the simple things in life, he  loved to laugh and never sweat the small stuff. Bobby also loved cooking, listening to music and podcasts. He loved all animals, especially his beloved dog, affectionately named Little Dog, she was his whole world. He enjoyed getting together with his family at his sister’s house and was known as the fun uncle. He was extremely excited to become an uncle again. Some nights you could catch him singing loudly to the Foo Fighters with his brother Logan, who was his best friend. Bobby is survived by his mother Debra Butterfield (Wayne Jensen), Grandmother Ruth “Toots” Malay. His siblings: Carrie (Bill) Cooper, Steven II (Heather) Butterfield, Josh (Heather) Butterfield, and Logan (Kelsie) Butterfield. His nine nieces and nephews: Jake, Courtney, Chase, Breanne, Trey, Kylie,Sophie,Trevor and his newest newphew Brooks Robert, named after his uncle. Bobby is preceded in death by his father Steven Butterfield, Grandparents Robert and Louise Butterfield and Grandfather Robert Malay. A celebration of his life will be held from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm on Friday, April 21st, 2023 at the Eagles Club, 630 Sixth Street South, La Crosse .

The great memories I have of us is vast, and something I will cherish for the rest of my life. Love you Bob. Until next time friend.

I met Bobby when we played baseball for the BGC (Boys and Girls Club) and always remembers Bobby “Butts” as a fun goofball. It was a log time ago at this point, but I don’t ever remember him worrying about the “big game” and he would always show up and do his best on the field (he was always one of the best on the field as well). I think one year we won just about every game/tournament we played in.

I have lots of good memories with Bobby, from trips the Miller Park to watch the Brewers for $6 student Tuesdays and one time almost getting lost in Milwaukee on the way home, to countless poker games, one of which Bobby and I inadvertently developed the concept of Uber eats so we could get McDonald’s delivered to us (too bad we were only 14 years old…).

Bobby was always a fun guy to be around. We may have lost touch after high school, but I would always consider Bobby a friend.

Bobby will be missed. Sorry for your loss.
