Sandra (Sandy) Grimes, 80, of Holmen, died Saturday, January 1st, 2022 at Mayo Health System.

She was born on February 23, 1941 to Orville and Eleanor (Thompson) Stein, in La Crosse. She lived on the North side of La Crosse and attended Roosevelt Elementary School until approximately 1951, when the family moved to the farm on Hwy V in Holmen. She then attended the Long Coulee School through 8th grade. She graduated from Holmen High School in 1959. She married Jack Grimes on June 4th, 1960.

She will be missed by her children, John (Steven) Grimes of Minneapolis, MN, Sharon (Jerry, Sr.) Mason of West Salem, WI, Steven (Jennifer) Grimes of Reedsburg, WI, and Samina (Jessica) Grimes of La Crosse, WI; her grandchildren Jerry Jr. (Lyndon) Mason of Steger, IL, Heather (Kimberlee) Mason of West Salem, WI, Amanda (Connor) Grimes of Eagle River, AK, Charles Grimes of Coos Bay, OR; Sydney Grimes of Onalaska, WI; great grandchildren Lydia Mason and Emerson Martini, Micah Grimes and Nolan Mason; her sister Viola Wallace; the Grimes and Stein family nieces and nephews, and the additional beloved family of Jack Grimes including Carol.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents, her brothers, and her niece Lori.

Sandy was a long standing member of Holmen Lutheran Church, a loyal 4-H supporter and adult leader, and a Holmen Homemaker. Sandy had a love for sewing, an incredible talent she shared with her family through many homemade bags, blankets and clothing items. Her and Jack supported their children through years of 4-H memberships, multiple 4-H trips, an international exchange program, a military career, multiple years of college attendance, theatre performances, and through life’s ups and downs. Both Sandy and Jack were incredibly generous with their time and love for all of their family, community and the Coulee Region. Sandy will miss her trips to the casino, monthly luncheons with her Holmen High School classmates, her friendship with Joann Moe and so many others.

Family and close friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St. Onalaska, WI., with a time to gather beginning at 10:30 am.  People are also welcome to attend virtually via Zoom using the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83955107347?pwd=UlFrLzVqeFJZUmo1MlRrUFlxbktnUT09

We are sending deepest sympathies to the entire family and especially Steve and Samina who we know best. I knew both of your parents and there are no words to describe their generous and kind treatment of everyone they knew. I ran into your Mom last holiday season in the grocery store and enjoyed our conversation. We have lost a great lady. Sending warm hugs and wishing you a celebration of her life and never ending good memories. I will be thinking of you all and praying for God to wrap you in His love and comfort. Sincerely, Donna Gallup and family
