Wanda O. (Bunn) Jensen, 94, of La Crosse, Wisconsin, died peacefully Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Hillview Heath Care Center in La Crosse.

She was born in Fancy Gap, VA on August 18, 1924 to Robert and Gertrude (Bolen) Bunn. She attended a one-room school house; Brookmoore Elementary and Hillsville High School where she graduated in 1941. She continued her schooling at West Virginia Business College and then moved to Washington D.C and worked at the Postal Telegraph Company. She lived in the Rochetta Guest House in Downtown Washington DC. Then she moved to Durham, NC and got a job at a five and dime at the lunch counter and met her soon-to-be-husband, Jesse Jensen. They were married on December 3, 1943. He was stationed at Camp Buckner and had to leave a few weeks later to serve our country in WWII. They eventually moved to La Crosse where they started their family.

Wanda loved to bake. We will always remember her wonderful yellow cake with chocolate and peanut butter frosting and her amazing apple pie slices. She had a way with words, every year she wrote the most beautiful rhymes in our birthday cards.

She thoroughly enjoyed her almost yearly trips back to Virginia to visit with her brothers, sisters, and their families. Most recently, her family took her back to Hillsville to celebrate her “90” birthday and drove straight through…she was always such a trooper and loved the adventure!! She was the most selfless, caring, giving, understanding, accepting, and most wonderful person in the world! She will be missed beyond measure.

She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (Stephen) Froegel, and Carrie Korish, her sister Almarie Bowman, her brother Robert “Junior” (Ivalou) Bunn, a daughter-in-law, Paula Jensen, sister-in-law Marion Hogden, grandchildren Kelly (Roy) Froegel, Kris (Steve) Follansbee, Steve Froegel Jr, Michelle Jensen, Cassandra (Ryan) Klich,Courtnaey Korish, Connor Korish, and Jeremy, many great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Gertrude and Robert Bunn, her husband, Jesse Jensen, two sons, Mike Jensen and Chuck Jensen, two sisters, Lillian Davis and Imogene Rector, two brothers, Clarence and Reuben Bunn.

A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 pm on Friday, May 24, 2019 in The Gathering Place at Coulee Region Cremation Group, 133 Mason St. Onalaska.
