Winifred Harris Grover, age 98, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Tri-County Health Care Center in Whitehall, WI. She was born on December 7, 1924, to Ted and Edith Harris of Trempealeau, WI.  She married Les Grover after World War II.  She was the oldest of the six “Harris girls”.

She grew up on a farm and life for her was busy. Each sister had their own chore plus doing what they could to help out. Winnie’s area of specialty was cooking and cleaning, which were talents she carried through her lifetime.

In addition to cooking and cleaning, she enjoyed card club, curling, playing bridge, and volunteering at Marinuka Manor Nursing Home and UMW at Trempealeau United Methodist Church where she was a lifetime member.

Winnie is survived by her son, Chuck of Whitehall; daughter, Laurie Havitz of Marshfield; granddaughters, Jennifer (Luke Baumgart) of Necedah, WI, and Diana Havitz of Sun Prairie, WI; two grandsons, Josh and Logan Baumgart of Necedah, WI. She is also survived by three sisters, Peggy Hilton (the late Wendell Hilton), Lois (Cletus) Casey, and Wanda (the late Carroll) Sacia; and brother-in-law, Ervin Wagner.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Edith; husband, Les Grover; sisters, Norma Jean Wagner, and Betty Lou (Arild) Engelien.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 3, 2023 at the Trempealeau United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be held at the Trempealeau Public Cemetery. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.

My name is Randy Eddy and I enjoyed working with Winnie at the Metroplitan Life Insurance office in Winona back in the 60’s. She was always smiling and a pleasure to work with. She and Les seemed like the perfect couple – such nice people. Great memories!

    God Bless,
    Randy Eddy

Please accept my sincere sympathy in the death of Winnie. I learned how to curl with Les and Winnie and as a team, with Rollie, we went on to win 1st, 2nd and 3rd events at Bonspiels. Winnie was so special..friendly and caring. I admired her very much…I’m glad I got to know her. She was an inspiration ❗️
